NOPD Press Release -

New Orleans, La. - Superintendent of Police Ronal Serpas today issued
a total of fifty letters of dismissal to employees of the Police
Department. Superintendent Serpas sent twenty-three letters to
civilian communication operators, who were all probationary status.
Superintendent Serpas stated that these positions were never funded.
Staffing and scheduling will be adjusted to minimize the effects of
the dismissals. Letters of dismissal were also sent to nine
probationary workers in the Record and Identification Section, six
provisional workers in the Trace Unit, and twelve recruits from the
Police Academy.

Superintendent Serpas stated that he regrets the dismissal of any
employee of the New Orleans Police Department; however this was a
necessary step in adjusting expenditures to match actual funds
allocated in the NOPD 2010 budget.
