Superintendent Serpas Reports Great Success From Newly Formed Task
Forces


New Orleans, LA – Superintendent of Police Ronal Serpas announced the
results from the newly formed Task Forces and Narcotics Units within
each district. The results are from July 11, 2010 thru July 17, 2010.

First District Narcotics Units that patrol the Mid City and Treme
areas confiscated 2 guns and made 3 narcotics arrest resulting in the
confiscation of 1.3 grams of Crack Cocaine, 21.0 grams of Marijuana,
10.5 grams of Heroin and 140 illegal pills. The Task Forces responded
to 252 new calls. They made 41 arrests, and confiscated drug
paraphernalia, Ecstasy Pills, Crack Cocaine and Marijuana.


Members of the Second District Task Force Units investigated 234 new
complaints. They made numerous traffic stops resulting in 43
citations, 13 traffic arrests and 33 field interview contacts. Task
Force Members conducted 3 Warrant Checks made 40 Misdemeanor Arrests,
2 Felony Arrests, 11 Municipal Arrests, wrote 29 reports and
confiscated marijuana off the streets. The Narcotic Unit made a total
of 31 arrests, investigating 126 new complaints and removed 7 grams of
marijuana off the streets of New Orleans.


Third District Narcotics Unit conducted 6 controlled narcotic buys
throughout the district and responded to two Crimestoppers tips. The
6 controlled buys and 1 hotline tip resulted in the confiscation of
5.65 grams of Crack Cocaine, .60grams of Oxycodone and 2.87 grams of
Marijuana. The Task Force Units made 29 arrests and 15 curfew
violations. They investigated to 141 new complaints, wrote 69
citations, interviewed 92 individuals, recovered a stolen vehicle and
in a narcotic arrest confiscated 13 rocks of Crack cocaine.


Fourth District Narcotics Unit investigators made 3 arrests resulting
in the confiscation of .48 grams of pills, 44.70 grams of Heroin, 2.14
grams of Cocaine, 313.93 grams of Marijuana and $83.00 dollars in
cash. The Task Force Units made a total of 3 arrest including 3
suspects who were in possession of handguns in the district’s “crime
hot spot”.


Fifth District Task Force Units made 49 arrests that resulted in 31.36
grams of Marijuana, and 7.28 grams of Crack Cocaine being
confiscated. Task Force Members also arrested a juvenile with a
Desert Eagle Gun and recovered a 38 caliber revolver from another
juvenile that escaped from police. The Narcotics Task Force Unit made
5 arrests, investigated 20 new calls and confiscated Marijuana, Crack
Cocaine and executed a search warrant. They apprehended a suspect
that fled on foot after firing a handgun into a crowd of people. The
suspect was booked with aggravated assault and illegal discharging of
a firearm.


Sixth District Task Force Units investigated 168 new calls, writing 18
reports and interviewing 56 individuals. They made 49 arrest
including 2 juveniles; one who was apprehended when the officers were
responding to an auto burglary. The Narcotics Task Force unit
executed two search warrants where they confiscated $542.00 in cash, a
gun, 16.56 grams of Crack Cocaine, 2.65 grams of Heroin, and 6.30
grams of Marijuana.


Seventh District Task Force Units investigated 128 new calls, wrote 11
reports and recovered two stolen vehicles. They made 23 arrests
including two juveniles and confiscated marijuana. The Narcotics Unit
responded to two hot line complaints arresting 4 suspects and executed
a search warrant that seized 1.63 grams of Marijuana and 4.99 grams of
Crack Cocaine.


The Eighth District Task Force Units investigated 194 calls,
interviewed 80 individuals, received 2 hot line complaints, conducted
2 wanted checks, made 14 arrests and apprehended a suspect who
attempted to rob a citizen.
