Okay everyone, I'm moving the NODE101 site to my server and I'm
shutting down all the subdomains. So if you are still using a Movable
Type site like "city.node101.org" it's time to move it to it's own
server. I have San Antonio's site at http://node101sanantonio.org/
and Cheryl has Phoenix's at http://node101phoenix.org/ , for example.
You don't have to pay for a site if you don't want to either. You can
set up a blogger blog like Markus did -
http://digitaldojo.blogspot.com/ . This will cut down on the
incredible amount of spam that we get and will just generally make it
easier if everyone runs their own site.
Also, fyi, the wiki is now on pbwiki - http://node101.pbwiki.com

If you need help, have questions, etc. please ask. I'd like to get
this done asap.

Also let us all know where your new site is!

Thanks,
Michael

Hey Michael,

So what's the deadline? I bought the domain (http://node101nyc.org), now I just need to figure out where to move the site to.

Hey ya'll,
More info about the server move...
First, I want to thank Josh Kinberg for hosting NODE101 and Freevlog
on the FireAnt servers for the last year and a half. The reason for
moving things is just so that it's less work and hierarchy for NODE101
overall. Now anyone can create a NODE101 site using any blogging
software and host that they want. Just let us all know so we can link
to you.
As far as a deadline, I'd love to get it all done in a week or so. If
you get a domain set up and are going to use something like Wordpress
it can import all your posts from MT (that's what I did). Let me know
if you need help.

Hi Michael,

I'm trying to have the NODE101::NYC site moved over to my MT account, but they need the IP address of the original server, or an alternate URL. If I can get that I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Melanie

Hmmm,
Good question. Josh do you have that info? Or is it in the MT
interface somewhere?

Here's the IP address:
217.160.253.98

Hope that helps... You should be able to export your MT blog to a text
file from the admin interface, and then import that into another
blogging system...

Yeah that's what I thought. When I switched from MT to Wordpress I
just did some export and import thing. It only took a few minutes and
kept all the comments, etc.

Michael,

Thanks to Josh for the IP address. Everything was imported intact. The new URL for NODE101::NYC is http://node101nyc.org. At some point, I might move it to Wordpress, but this was easier (and cheaper) for the moment. :-)

I updated my links section to point to http://node101nyc.org.

For those nodes who haven't already, please consider adding
http://node101phoenix.org to your list of links to other nodes.

Thanks!

Cheryl
