Dear friends,

We have a Peruvian family in urgent need in Flagstaff.

Some details: Mother, Father, 15-month-old baby, mother’s brother, and stepfather.

They fled from Perú after the father was beaten unconscious and a cousin was murdered. They sold their house and business and used the money to get to the U.S. After crossing the border, they presented themselves to Border Patrol. After holding them in detention for two days, the Border Patrol released them but confiscated ALL of their possessions, including their shoelaces.

Somehow, they ended up in Flagstaff. Generous community members and the NAU—No More Deaths student group have gotten them some clothing, coats, and shoes, and set them up with food from the pantry and the Food Center. Folks also helped raise money for a first month’s rent (two rooms in a house with no furniture, and no central heat). They need to be out of this house by Jan 15th.

So, long story short, these are people in urgent need of help.

*If you know of a place they could stay or rent please let me know. Again, they’ve been sleeping on the floor of an unheated house without furniture. The urgent need is to find a place with a roof and heat.

*As of late, the mother has work cleaning houses. The father has had a few labor jobs but is in need and is willing to do any kind of work. They don’t want to take charity, they want to work, but they are in a very difficult situation. If you know of anyone who might have work for them, please let me know.

*If you would like to donate money, we will give it all to them for their needs. I have attached a flyer with a Venmo QR code (See attached and yellow doc below.) No amount is too small.

You can also send money for them directly to my Zelle account. I have attached my QR code:

Please let me know if you have questions. I’m trying to explain the situation without violating their privacy.

In solidarity and many thanks for anything you can do. Happy New Year, 2024!
