Friends,
There are two upcoming events that I want to tell you about!
On Thursday, Nov 2 at 6:30pm at the Coconino Center for the Arts I will be moderating a Humanitarian Activist Panel that is part of the meant to enhance the Tom Kiefer photo exhibit, El Sueño Americano, that is currently on exhibit in the main gallery. If you haven’t seen Kiefer’s photos, I HIGHLY recommend that you check them out. Tom saved items that were taken from detained border crossers when he worked as a custodian at the Ajo Border Patrol Station. He subsequently created art photographs of these objects. These thought-provoking photos offer a unique, humanizing perspective on issue of undocumented migration. I finally had the opportunity to see the show this weekend and was deeply moved.
The panel on Thursday brings together four activists—Dora Rodríguez, Rev John Fife, Mike Wilson, and Dr. Scott Warren—they are truly “superstar” activists! You can read a brief bio of their remarkable accomplishments here: https://coconinoarts.org/event/humanitarian-activist-panel-discussion/
On Friday, Nov 3 at 6:30pm at the Coconino Center for the Arts, Northern Arizona Immigration Legal Services (NAILS) will screen Mexican director Carlos Hagerman’s new animated documentary, Home is Somewhere Else! Through animation, the film provides a unique perspective on the experiences of young people who were brought to the US without authorization as children. This screening is a fundraiser: NAILS offers free legal assistance to members of our community regardless of where they were born. NAILS never charges clients, though we do pay immigration attorneys for the work that they provide, and WE NEED FUNDS in order to keep providing services. You can see a trailer of this film here: https://www.google.com/search?q=home+is+somewhere+else+trailer&rlz=1C5GCEM_enUS1057US1058&oq=home+is+somewhere+else+trailer&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCwgAEEUYJxg5GIoFMgYIARBFGEAyCggCEAAYhgMYigUyCggDEAAYhgMYigUyCggEEAAYhgMYigUyCggFEAAYhgMYigXSAQg0ODc5ajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:19a4ff48,vid:kRL-VENZnjo,st:0
Note: Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability to donate. If you do want to donate and cannot make it, the QR code on the attached photo will take you to the NAILS web page where you can make a donation.
One last thing: I promise, these are the last two events I’m organizing this year, I’m not going to keep messing with your calendar. Please know, these two events are absolutely worth your time and attention.
Best,
Bob Neustadt
