My name is Carrie Wilbert, a doctoral candidate in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at the University of Iowa. I am writing to invite you to participate in a qualitative research study that will explore the lived experiences of sign language interpreters and their experiences with work stress and mental health counseling.
Your participation in this research will involve taking part in 1) a pre-interview demographics questionnaire (15 minutes), 2) a virtual individual interview (90 minutes) and 3) a follow up meeting to review the transcript of your interview and writing responses to two open-ended questions (30 minutes).
To be eligible for the study:
• Interpreted in Video Relay services previously or currently for at least 40 hours per month.
• Have previously or currently received mental health counseling services for occupational stress with a state licensed mental health provider.
• Reside in the U.S
• You must be 18 years of age or older
This research study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at the University of Iowa. To protect your confidentiality, I will use pseudonyms and collect personal information only directly needed to conduct the study. Taking part in this research study is completely voluntary. You can decide not to be in this study, and decide to stop participating at any time, without any penalty.
