Invitation to participate for 15 minutes in an MA research study

Jessica Frew, a Gallaudet MA candidate, is interested in learning about working memory in interpreters. The study will ask for 15 minutes of your time. I'm sharing the invitation below.

I am emailing you to invite you to be part of my research project focused on working memory in sign language interpreters. The purpose of the research is to examine working memory employed by interpreters after their work is complete. If you participate in my project, you will interpret a short video from ASL to English, document the amount of numbers you remember from the video, and then have a brief interview with me regarding your experience. It will take you approximately 15 minutes to participate in the research, there will be no monetary compensation.
This research is being conducted through Gallaudet University. The findings will be presented in a public forum in May of 2024, although all identifying information about your involvement will be withheld. In order to participate in this study, you must be a sign language interpreter. I am searching for a range of experience amongst the participants. If you are interested in this study, please respond with the number of years you have been working professionally as an interpreter. Certification is not required.
By participating in this study you are helping provide insight into research surrounding interpreters and their memory. This has the potential to provide insight and support to novice, as well as veteran interpreters. There are no known risks to participating in this study. This project has been approved by Gallaudet’s IRB.
Participation is voluntary, but I hope you will choose to be part of this project! You may also choose to leave the study at any moment.
