Subject: Protect voter rights in Nebraska

Below is an email from Jane Fleming Kleeb, who created a petition at SignOn.org that is getting a lot of attention and may be of interest to people in your area. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here.

Dear Nebraska MoveOn member,

The Nebraska legislature is debating a voter ID bill today that will make it harder for Nebraskans to vote.

Counties estimate they could spend $200,000 to $600,000 more per election just to implement the proposed voter ID requirements. About 10% of Nebraskans do not have government-issued photo ID, including many elderly citizens who no longer drive.

LB 239, the voter ID bill, will be up for a debate today or tomorrow. We need to let state senators know that Nebraskans will not allow our constitutional right to vote to be undermined.

That's why I created a petition to the Nebraska State Senate on SignOn.org, which says:

I do not support LB 239. The bill will not only decrease voter participation, it will cost taxpayers and local counties hundreds of thousands of dollars for a problem that doesn't even exist in our state. As a Nebraskan, I support fair and accessible elections. Please do the same and oppose LB 239.
