A Message from Tim Shaw, CEO Subscribe Forward Email Donate Stay Connected      Watch this video    Medicaid Works in Nebraska Affordable Health Care for Nebraskans!      Disability Rights Nebraska knows that access to health care is essential to the success of all Nebraskans and builds stronger communities.   Increasing access to affordable health care options is the goal of LB 577, the bill that would implement the Affordable Care Act's new Medicaid program in our state. The Legislature will hold a hearing on LB 577 this Thursday, February 28th.   Watch the attached video put together by our friends at Nebraska Appleseed to see why the new Medicaid program is a win-win for the health of our people and the strength of our economy (please share it with a friend!).   1. LB 577 is a good deal for our state. The federal government will pay 100% of the cost through 2016, and then 90% from 2020 on, which will return $2.3 billion to Nebraska's economy.   2. It will grow the economy. The return of federal dollars will generate $700 million in economic activity each year and sustain 10,000 jobs.   3. It reduces the "hidden tax" and cost-shift to premiums in private plans.   It is estimated the average Nebraska family with health insurance currently pays a "hidden tax" of $1,107 to compensate for health care for the uninsured. If we leave people uninsured, they will continue to go without primary care and will continue to need more expensive care that drives up cost for everyone.   4. It is the right thing to do. At least 54,000 uninsured Nebraskans will gain health care coverage, and an estimated 500 lives would be saved.    This is our opportunity to assure health care access to thousands of Nebraskans and to keep their community strong by their contributions of work and volunteering. To make this happen, your senator needs to hear from you!   Call or write your state senator and urge them to support LB 577. It's a good deal for our state. It will grow the economy.
