The Annual Raymond J. and Dorothy A. Lord Symposium on Historical European Martial Arts at the Kinney Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies at UMass Amherst will be held on April 25, 2026. 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This day-long Symposium will feature presentations of interpretive work on re-creating the historical martial arts and research conducted to better understand the contexts in which they existed.
Our keynote speaker this year is Jacob Deacon, University of Leeds, who will be speaking on ‘Most Noble Brethren’: The Masters of Defence and Fencing in Early Modern England' and 'Very much beloved in the Court’?: Tales of Italian Fencing Masters in Early Modern England'
