Hi everyone!

Guy Windsor is coming to Boston the first weekend in April! Class descriptions are below. To register, please use this link: https://athenaschoolofarms.sites.zenplanner.com/calendar.cfm?calendarType=EVENT&date=2019-04-06

Hope to see you there!

Saturday, April 6, 12-3PM. Cap 24
Abrazare and Dagger workshop.
This class will cover the first six plays of Fiore’s abrazare, and connect those concepts to the dagger material, especially the first eight plays of the first master, the “five things,” and doing the “five things” from the other nine masters. The exact content will be determined by the students present. If you have an abrazare or dagger problem you’re working on, then bring it along!

You will need a dagger simulator, and a mask.

Saturday, April 6, 4-7PM. Cap 24
Longsword: no double hits!
This class will identify the single general cause of double hits, and work on solutions to that cause using Fiore’s plays and concepts, such as largo and stretto. We will cover the problem as it occurs in both strikes from a crossing or bind, and strikes from out of measure. If you have a specific scenario in which you end up with doubles, let us know and we’ll work on it.

You will need a longsword simulator and a mask. If you want to work at higher speed and intensity, bring full freeplay kit. This is optional: you can learn how to prevent double hits at lower intensities, and ramp it up in later sessions.

Sunday, April 7, 10AM-1PM. Cap 24
Rapier- problem-solving for intermediate and advanced students.
This class is limited to those with at least the following knowledge and skills:
1) a solid grasp of basic actions such as stepping, lunging, passing, voiding; point control, attack by disengage, parry-riposte, counterattack, and the feint.
2) some freeplay experience: enough that you have problems you know you should work on.

We will start the class with some light freeplay, to establish areas that need work, and then take those specific problems and solve them.

If you need to be told what to bring, you’re not ready for this class!

Sunday, April 7, 2-5PM. Cap 12
How to coach an individual lesson with the Longsword.
In this class, we will establish the fundamental principle of the individual lesson: creating an environment in which only the desired action at the desired level of competence will work - in every other case, the student at least fails to strike, and at best also gets hit. The specific actions we will learn to coach will be established during the class, though we will certainly start with how to coach students to strike entering measure without exposing their hands or their face.

This class will suit students of every level. Beginners, you will get a lot of coaches practising on you. More advanced students, you will learn how to control the fencing environment. That control will be applied to the benefit of your students in class, but of course can be applied to the detriment of your opponents when fencing.

All students will need a longsword simulator, a mask, and gauntlets. Full freeplay kit is necessary for all coaches.

Just a thought... have you guys considered offering a full registration,  for all four classes at a discount over registering separately?

We can certainly explore that for next time. Thanks for the suggestion!
