Lived Impacts, Policy Shifts, and the Politics of Waste
18 December 2025 ⏰ 6:00 - 8:00 PM (IST)
📍 Online | Zoom
Drawing from ground-level experiences in Delhi, Chennai, and Hyderabad, this session will critically examine Waste-to-Energy (WTE) projects in India. The discussion will trace the origins and political economy of WTE, its deep entanglement with plastics and petrochemicals, and the lived realities of communities affected by these facilities, particularly health impacts and environmental degradation.
The session will also unpack recent regulatory shifts, including the reclassification of WTEs from Red to Blue category and the removal of Environmental Clearance requirements for Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Facilities, and what these changes mean for environmental governance, accountability, and urban futures.
