NAPM Samvidhan Samman Yatra: 2018

Appeal for Contributions

Dear friends,

Greetings from NAPM | National Alliance of Peoples’ Movements is embarking on a Samvidhan Samman Yatra – a nationwide tour to restore and protect the core values of our Constitution and democracy, at a time when there is an all-out attack on people’s rights, livelihoods, environment and the spirit of diversity in the country, even as massive scams, resource loot and dilution of laws are taking place and farmers, workers, students, employees, women, dalits, adivasis, muslims all are on the streets asserting their rights, spaces and freedoms.

The 3-phase Yatra shall commence on 2nd October, 2018 from Dandi (Gujarat) and travel through various states in the country holding meetings, discussions, public events, supporting struggles and resistance, sharing grief of and solidarity with survivors of violence & hate, spreading the message of plurality, love, peace & social justice. We hope to travel through 25 states over 65 days, holding 250 programmes all over, reaching out to numerous struggles, citizens, common masses, students, youth, women, farmers, workers, dalits, adivasis, lending support, listening to people’s voices and spreading awareness on constitutional rights and values.

The Yatra shall culminate in a Jan Sansad at Delhi on 10th December, 2018, the International Human Rights Day. About 35-40 representatives of peoples’ movements, prominent activists, thinkers, academics, cultural activists, students and others will travel as part of the Yatra team, at any given point and shall be joined by many people and groups enroute. We are also inviting other comrades, saathis, movements, institutions, organizations and forums who subscribe to the core values of NAPM to endorse and participate in the yatra. A brief concept note about the Yatra and the route plan is attached.

Like every other programme of NAPM, we will be conducting the Yatra mostly on the resources generated by the public. While local groups would try to pitch in with food and halt facilities, wherever possible, we would require spending quite a bit of money on travelling (vehicles and diesel) throughout the country, over at least 15,000 kms. As NAPM, has always been an entirely autonomous process of people’s groups and movements since its inception more than 2 decades ago, we are issuing this Public Appeal to crowd fund the expenses for the Yatra and request those of you who believe in the spirit and values of the Yatra to donate generously for aiding this endeavour.

We are open to contributions of all denominations and welcome every single form of support. Our estimates indicate that we may need to raise at least 20-25 lakh rupees to cater to various requirements of the yatra, including vehicles, diesel, sound system, publicity, printing materials, exhibitions, posters, banners, stationery etc.  You can either contribute by:

a)      Issuing a cheque in the name of:  Jansahayog Trust, 6 Raghav, Shree Raghuraj Co-operative Housing Society, Sinhgad Road, Pune  - 411030, Maharashtra  OR

b)      Making a bank transfer to: Current A/c No.  34965130010,  IFS code: SBIN0008043, Jansahayog Trust, State Bank of India, Datta wadi Branch, Pune 30, Maharashtra.

Kindly inform us of your contribution by sending us an SMS, Whatsapp message and /or e-mail to Suniti at 9423571784 (napm....@gmail.com) indicating clearly the amount, date of contribution, address and PAN number. Please mention that the contribution is for NAPM Yatra, 2018. We shall issue you a receipt for your contribution and you can also avail an 80-G tax exemption.

You can also contribute by hosting us in any place where the Yatra reaches, providing vehicle in any state/s, picking up some of the diesel bills, printing costs etc. Please share this appeal widely within your circles and encourage others to contribute and participate in this important effort aimed at facilitating constructive dialogue amongst people and action across the country for asserting constitutional values, social change and justice.

We look forward to hearing back from you,

Medha Patkar, Arundhati Dhuru, Lingaraj Azad, Suniti SR, Anand Mazgaonkar, Kaladas Deheriya, Kusumam Joseph, Suniti SR, Dr Sunilam, Meera Sanghamitra, Ashish Ranjan, Madhuresh Kumar, Himshi Singh, Uma and others.
