I have a very deluxe large two bedroom 1600 sq foot time share condo in Park City that is available from Jan 19th thru the 26th. 7 nights at the marriott Summit Watch. The attached studio which has its own Bathroom , small kitchen and pull out sofa is not spoken for. I will be staying in the master with a friend which features a Large kitchen and shared living room. Underground parking , ski in ski out at Park city located at the bottom of Main Street in downtown Park city. All I ask is that we share the maintenance fees for the week. Which would be about 1300 per side. This place normally rents out for 500-700$ per night. Easy access to Deer valley ( 5 min by bus or car ) or drive to Alta or Snowbird which are about 45 min away.
Let me know if anyone is interested. We would share the entire unit or you could lock off the studio and have your own unit.

Hi, Mike.
I'm interested. After an injury at Jackson Hole (off mountain straight to surgery) sticking to blues and easier blacks. Let me know if I'm a good fit to ski together.

Wish I could take you up on this! I’ve never skied in Utah. I’ll be in Hawaii those dates…

Felicia and others,

You really should add Utah to your bucket list.  There are lots of good ski areas there.  Unfortunately, many of them are getting really expensive.  For example, a day ticket at Deer Valley costs between $249 and $329, depending on the day you choose.  A season pass at Deer Valley now costs:  $3,990.  Wow!

Park City is enormous now that it includes The Canyons.  You get both ski areas, Park City and the Canyons, included in the same ticket.  Day tickets cost between $259 and $312, depending on the day.

Man, som ski areas have already crossed the $300 line.  I thought we might get at least another year or two before prices rise that high!  But, no, here we are already, if you ski Deer Valley or Park City on a holiday day.

When in Utah, I would recommend the following ski areas.  They are less expensive and provide more interesting terrain:
Powder Mountain, near Ogden and Eden.
Sundance ski area, near Provo. Used to be owned by Robert Redford. Maybe still is. And here's a surprise. When you get on the main chairlift to the top, don't get offf at the mid-station, and don't get off at the top either.  That chairlift will take you to the best terrain, which lies on the other side of that first little "peak".  Just stay on the chairlift past the peak, and you'll be in for a real suprise.  Make sure you have the safety bar down!

Mike, please post an update here if the Park City condo gets filled.  Debbie seemed very interested.  Let me know if I should continue advertising the condo.  I am planning an email update for the club very soon, like maybe today or tomorrow.

I saw a Ski Utah pass that gives you 4 passes that can be used at Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude.  I think the price was $259.  Definitely a steal as those are all great areas.  Alta and Snowbird are bucket list areas.  Brighton and Solitude are good as well.

Emilio,

You are behind the times when you mention Powder Mountain, which until this year was very friendly to seniors, with free lift tickets after age 75, and being on the Indy Pass, with two free lift tickets.  That's all gone with the new programs brought in this year by the new owners.  Anyone wanting to ski Powder Mountain on peak weekends in January-February needs to have a seasons pass - no regular lift tickets will be sold.  He's taken half the mountain private.  Lift tickets for SENIORS now are close to $200/day.  It was sure a fun place to ski until this year.

You can't ski at many places this year unless you have an Ikon Pass or Epic pass....

Keith,

It would be good to know where you saw that.  I looked for it online, and think that it must have been steadily increasing in price - HERE is what I find today.  (Hope that link works.)

Maybe we need to bring some of these bargains to the group as soon as we see them, before the season starts - it might help some people plan trips.

Looks like I remembered the price wrong and it is now only a three day pass now.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for clarifying the situation with Powder Mountain.  I knew that things have changed there, and not for the better.  Btu, it's still some good terrain there.  But making part of the ski ar ea private is a huge sin in my eyes!  And closing the whole mountain on weekends, making it available only to pass holders is a bit no-no too.  The new owners are on the wrong track.

The EPIC and IKON Passes are raising the day ticket prices on purpose in order to force people to buy a season pass.  I find this practice abhorrent too.

I count myself lucky that I have skied most of the big name ski areas in past years, before they got crazy.  In my quest to ski all of the west, I am now planning a series of road trips for the upcoming years.

This year, I would like to visit just a few ski areas that would help me complete skiing all of Utah, Nevada and Northern California.  Fortunately, 2 of these ski areas are on the INDY Pass, and the remaining ones are not part of either IKON or EPIC and therefore they still have reasonably priced day ticket prices.

My next itinerary will probably include:
  1. Cherry Peak - the newest ski area in Utah. On the INDY Pass.
  2. Nordic Valley, near Eden, UT.  What a stupid name for an alpine ski area! Used to be called Wolf Mountain. Several years ago, new owners changed the name to Nordic Valley. But they also added a new lift serving new terrain.
  3. Eagle Point, UT. About 3 hours south of Salt Lake City.  I've skied Brian Head a few years ago, with Kay Kinyon. Eagle Point is a bit north of Brian Head. Eagle Point is on the INDY Pass. With the above 3, I'll be done with Utah.
  4. Lee Canyon, near Las Vegas.   That should be interesting to see. With this one, I will be done with Nevada.
  5. June Mountain, CA.  I've skied at Mammoth before, but I have not visited June Mt. yet. June is just a few miles north of Mammoth.
  6. Soda Springs, north of Lake Tahoe. I have skied everything around Lake Tahoe, except for Soda Springs.  I read somewhere that Soda Springs is the oldest ski area in California.

With those last two, I will have skied almost all of California, except for the handful of ski areas near Los Angeles, including the one called Mountain High.  Those will have to be done at a different time.

Oh, but I apologize for digressing from the main subject of this thread, which is the condo/studio in Park City.

Emilio
