Dear Colleagues,
I am attaching one of my travelogues about the fascinating Machu Picchu. I visited this place in early June 2009 after a hectic meeting in Cusco (widely known as Puma City, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cusco and http://wikitravel.org/en/Cuzco). Machu Picchu is recently been chosen as New7Wonders Foundation's seven wonders of the world in 2006 (read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Seven_Wonders_of_the_World). Landmark of Inca civilisation, a cultural site, which is considered a sacred place, Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It receives more than 600,000 visitors annually, coming mainly from Latin and North America, Europe and Japan.
Perhaps it was a coincidence, just six months before this trip, I was in a personal visit to Pokhara, Nepal, where I flew (paraglide) in the open sky, hiding with and seeking for Machhapuchhre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machapuchare). Machhapuchhre2 Machu Picchu trip took six months, but it was lifetime experience, enriched with lots of excitement, fun, learning opportunity and much more.
Hope you’ll enjoy this read. This is also available online at http://www.ekantipur.com/the-kathmandu-post/2009/12/11/Features/A-City-Upon-a-Hill/2959/ .
I also take this opportunity to wish you all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2010.
With warm regards,
Tek
