We have no more thought of using our own powers to escape the arm of authorities than had the Apostles of old. No more are we ready to keep silent at man's behest when God commands us to speak. For it is, and must remain, the case that we must obey God rather than man. (Last sermon before being imprisoned by the Nazi regime of Germany (27 June 1937) --Martin Niemollers

There are so many things wrong with that sentence I don’t even know where to start.

In the interest of time and readability I confine myself to pointing out that the financing arm of corporations, Wall Street, is posting gains at record levels. That’s because people want to use their money to earn money, called dividends, from corporations –including banks-that are posting profits, not going belly up.

We can spend days arguing about the morality of such a system but it does make people wealthy or at least well-heeled. Since the notion of personal wealth makes socialists seethe and rage I can see why you’d call making money immoral. Me? I call earning money practical since it is how things work.

There will always be conflict b/w government and corporations. The conflict itself does not mean the government’s right. Would there were conflict b/w government and the media but the media joined ranks w/ the government a generation ago. There is no need to be honest when no one but the late night comics hold you up to ridicule.
