But if you're interested in helping all those exciting pieces come
together, please read the following message from Ken Jones and please
plan to come to the library at 6pm on Wednesday October 3.
-Sean Sheehan, for the Montpelier Energy Team
--------------------
Greetings,
We are scheduled for a meeting to discuss the progress of the Montpelier
Energy Team this Wednesday at 6 pm in the Library.
There has been some interesting progress over the past few weeks and
there are several activities that are ready to move. Our agenda is full
and I hope, exciting.
First, we will review the results from each of the working groups. The
emphasis on these reviews is to identify the kinds of steps that each of
us can take to move them along. Included in our progress is moving
forward on district energy, establishing an energy coop, and
distributing 20,000 compact fluourescent bulbs.
Second, we will discuss an idea that is evolving and getting some good
review. It is a community energy services utility and it bundles the
delivery of electricity and fuel oil with efficiency activities to
ensure that the energy supplies are used with greatest efficiency. This
idea joins together some of our activities to generate energy (district
energy, micro hydro) with the co-op. The implications are huge and broad
reaching. During this time on the agenda we will talk more about the
sequence of steps and the logical partners.
Third, I will give an update on a recent meeting of the New England
Cities project. Montpelier is one of ten New England cities pursuing
energy strategies that reduce our impact on climate change.
Fourth, we can review the proposal to be submitted to the
enVision Steering Committee. This $20,000 proposal will get us some
stuff (e.g. some bulbs for discounted distribution, some pipe wrap) and
some staff support to keep our other activities moving forward.
Finally, we can talk about formalizing a communications network with
other communities in Vermont that are carrying out energy team
activities. If each of us picks a town, we can check in regularly, share
our news with other MET members and build the overall Vermont network of
energy activities.
I hope that you can make this meeting and keep up on the progress of
MET. We have a chance to make a difference, and we need your participation.
Thanks,
Ken Jones
