You're correct that the trip has been nice. We had time this trip
that we didn't expect, like post of the day on Monday because we
didn't leave to get the girls until 3:00, and were able to use that
time getting to know some great families that are here and just have
some time to ourselves. For instance, after a paperwork meeting
Monday morning, during which we had a time of prayer that was just
priceless, we all took off on an 'adventure' to find McDonalds. We
decided to walk, because it would take more time and because I think
folks wanted to walk off some nervous energy, and got directions from
Glen our guide who drew it out for me on a map.
Just in case I grabbed two things, a piece of paper on which Glen had
written McDonalds in
Chinese and the address of the one he gave us directions to and a
handful of hotel cards with the words 'Please drive me to the Majestic
Hotel' just in case we found ourselves lost and needed to jump into a
cab.
So, off we went following Glen's directions on my map and we found
McD's about 12 minutes later...only one problem, it was a different
McD's. Of course I didn't realize this until we saw the one he sent
us to yesterday when we went to Walmart to shop, he told me it was
close to Walmart but Monday's McD's was not. I mentioned to him as we
were getting off the bus that this was not the McD's we came to and he
just started laughing.
So much for my good sense of direction.
Hotel Majestic: Doesn't quite live up to it's name but this is a nice
hotel on par with the White Swan we will stay in on the next phase of
the trip (Robin I know you know it well). Pretty typical of what we
have come to expect of western style hotels in China.
