I love cahiers too. And like you, I was bothered by the 16 detachable
pages. But after having filled about 8 or 9 XL Cahiers, I don't care
anymore. I just write on them and fill the notebook. They stay in fine
enough as long as you don't fold them along the perforations.
Over time I've ended up writing things I'd like to reread a year or
more from now in my hard cover Pocket moleskine. Everything else goes
into the Cahier, which is mainly for stuff I need to review and recall
over a shorter term -- like maybe a week to a month, which is about
how long it takes me to fill one. So the perforated pages don't really
do any harm. They won't fall out in that time. I've had maybe 2 perfed
pages fall out on me. It's not a big deal. I keep them loose inside
the Cahier. You can also fold and tuck them into the flap pocket, or
paper clip them to the back cover. I'm also comforted by the fact that
someday I can send off my Cahiers to some service to get them scanned
into digital images that can last forever.
