Generator Cutout Wiring

I’m wondering if any of you Model A wiring specialists can advise me on the proper electrical connections to the generator cutout? I took the generator off years ago and want to reconnect the wiring. The cutout has two connection posts on opposite ends. (I have tried unsuccessfully in removing the cutoff cap to see where the posts connect inside.) Does it matter which of these posts I use for the wire to the ammeter and battery?
