Problem with mobile phone

A letter G has appeared on the display of my mobile phone. Sometimes
there is a stricktrhough on the letter.
This is linked with a marked deterioration in reception and quality. I
have switched the phone off, removed the battery and reinserted etc.
but it remains

What does it mean and how can I get rid of it?

this g represents d gprs connectivity it appears bcoz u enabled the option of always online in gprs settins jus chagne it 2 wenever needed nd u wnt see d g again.its get striked wen u recieve a call or msg
