Subject: displaced artists (from workspace on folsom/17th) interested in renting part of ground floor of MLVS

A group of long time Mission artists are being displaced in August 2017 from Workspace, an artist studio space on Folsom/17th.  They have been looking for replacement space in the City, and have not been able to find anything.  They saw the For Lease advertisement on MLVS, and have viewed the space and met with Tony and Natalie.  Since it is a dozen artists, Tony asked that they find a Master Tenant for a lease.  PFF has been approached.  PFF is a non-profit arts space that I founded and run.  We have 20 artists who share 6000 sq ft. Many of you have been to our location for community meetings of Our Mission No Eviction, the Prop I organizing, the Beast on Bryant community mtgs, etc.  We are a group of multidisciplinary artists, 80% of whom are artists of color/LGBT.  We are a community arts space.  We are able to expand our work to include becoming the Master Tenant for this additional group of displaced artists, as it matched our mission of providing arts spaces to artists traditionally underserved and unseen in the traditional art world.  This group of artists is composed of many members of the Cultural Action Network, who stood beside Mission activists in our struggle with the Beast on Bryant, designing all the flyers and logos for our public info campaign against the Titanic Mess on SVN (Lennar) the AXIS of Evil (23/Folsom), the Monster in the Mission (16/Mission)... 

If the community would support this group renting the 4000 sq ft on 19th/Alabama, we will step up.  If not, we will step back.  Let me know of any opposition or support for this.

The meeting for tomorrow 6/1 is postponed to 6/8.  The building committee sent a request to meet with Saul Griffith.  We are asking Chiu's office to set up the meeting.

Most all folks on this email chain who work for the city have been requested to respond to a Sunshine Ordinance request.  This means that all these emails will be shared with Saul Griffith's lawyer.  He has requested the information.  He will likely end up with every email moving forward.    

The 6/8 meeting will be posted the morning off and will be on the Mission Peace Collaborative's Facebook page.
