Subject: Fwd: Public housing sign ups at housing town hall ON - Oct 28
Please contact families to attend!Subject: Public housing sign ups at housing town hall ON - Oct 28Hi family liaisons, community school coordinators, mpn family success coaches, Robert Pena, Claudia and Lucia,
For our town hall on Tuesday, San Francisco Housing Authority is coming at the special invite of Bevan Duffy. What this means for our homeless families is that we have the opportunity to directly sign up any families earning less than 80% AM I (about $60k for a three person family) for public housing.
for families who were formerly or currently on a waiting list, they will have client placement service forms. For families not yet on a list , they can sign-up. The housing authority is planning to renovate up to 179 units in Potrero Terrace as well as Sunnydale in the upcoming year. And any vacancies that come up would prioritize homeless families.
So please contact all the homeless families that you are working with to let them know to come on Tuesday. please also help spread the word with our Mission schools.... The doors open at 6pm and Nicole will be there then.
Ps MEDA will be helping families to sign up for BMR rentals at our resource table.
Thanks

Hi Bevan and Nicole,
Thank you for the exciting and important connection. I think our homeless families will be very interested in being on placed on the list, if they aren't already and or directly filling on a Client placement service form if they were previously on a list.
I will spread the word with our school partners to make sure that the families that they have identified can make it to the event.
On timing, we are opening doors at 6pm and expect to have our resource tables set up by then. The resource tables will be just outside the cafteria where the welcome and panel will occur. We are hoping to welcome parents at 630 pm and start the panel at 640 pm.

Gabriel and Karoleen:
I had the opportunity to talk with Nicole McCray Dickerson, who is the manager of eligibility for the San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA).
Nicole was incredibly gracious and expressed her willingness to join us Tuesday for the forum and panels. Because of the importance of SFHA opening applications to currently homeless families, it would help if she could present on the earlier side.
She will also bring Client Placement Service Forms for people who are either currently on the list or possibly purged from the list. We will also advise homeless and SRO families of their ability to become eligible for placement as part of the City/SFHA effort to bring vacant units on-line through rehabilitation.
Dee Schexnayder of our office is also willing to come in support of Nicole and help staff an information table.
So please connect and confirm timing with them directly. Thanks so much.

Bevan,
I hope you are well! Heads up from something in your neighborhood. I am hoping you are available to participate in a panel Tuesday, October 28 @ EVERETT MIDDLE SCHOOL, 450 Church Street @17th Street from 7:45PM to 8:30PM. Currently we have Supervisor Wiener, Supervisor Campos, an SFUSD official, Oscar Grande (PODER) and Lucia Kimble (CJJC). We would welcome an opportunity for Mission families to share their personal experiences directly with City staff in addition to this esteemed panel.
We are sending a media release of panelists this Thursday. Please let me know if you might be able to participate. The number of homeless students in the Mission has continued to increase. http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/thousands-of-sf-public-school-students-are-homeless/Content?oid=2909752
The 2nd Housing Townhall for Families with Children in Mission District Schools on is a follow-up to the February housing townhall that Mission Promise Neighborhoods, the SFUSD and Causa Justa hosted in February with over 200 students and families from across the Mission Zone.
This Townhall will bring to the parents the policy changes and the resources that they can directly engage in since the February townhall. This townhall will grow the families' knowledge of their housing rights, resources and how to get involved.
At the February town hall we 1) had resource tables for our families; 2) heard the heartbreaking stories of our families as they told them in small groups; 3) reflected those stories to Sup. Campos, Sup Cohen, Hydra Mendoza, Jeff Buckley, Oscar Grande (PODER), Lucia Kimble (CJJC) as the start of the connecting our families challenges in the schools with City hall policies.
We would love your presence at the townhall to make it successful. The event will have be opened with a reflection on the previous townhall and where we are in the housing crisis. Families will then participate in two 20 minute sessions on Knowing their Housing Rights, Accessing Housing Resources, Advocating and Voting for their Housing. We will then connect the feedback from families to city and school district leaders.
Thank you!
Best Regards,
