MLVS update and next community mtg

Hi all here are the updates:

The meeting for tomorrow 6/1 is postponed to 6/8.  The building committee sent a request to meet with Saul Griffith.  We are asking Chiu's office to set up the meeting.

Most all folks on this email chain who work for the city have been requested to respond to a Sunshine Ordinance request.  This means that all these emails will be shared with Saul Griffith's lawyer.  He has requested the information.  He will likely end up with every email moving forward.    

The 6/8 meeting will be posted the morning off and will be on the Mission Peace Collaborative's Facebook page.

I agree with you that this matter is urgent but I received several emails saying that today did not work to meet.

I am still available to meet and if others want to meet we can meet.

We need someone to step up and chair the fundraising committee who would work closely with the building committee and someone to chair the program committee this committee would look at what programming can rent or be proposed for the space.  If at least those folks could meet today we can have a smaller meeting.

The larger meeting will be next week.  The proposed agenda:

What is the status of the part of the building for rent? How much is the realtor getting for a commission to find a tenant? What is the criteria for selecting a new tenant? The community has said that we cannot keep gentrifying the block by MLVS renting to high-end restaurants and tech offices. This is not the way to resolve MLVS's financial issues, as both the local and state legislators have said they would help MLVS at the last mtg.  As Gabriel said: we demand that developers provide affordable, community-serving space in property we don't even own, so certainly we need to follow this for our own buildings that we do own. We have been fighting to preserve light industry/PDR space in the Mission for years, and fought hard to pass Prop X which protects PDR usage. 

A group of artists are being displaced from their studios on Folsom and 18th. They have approached PFF to help them, by PFF becoming the master lease holder, and have applied to rent  MLVS.  I don't know if this would or it would not be an appropriate use of the ground floor. But if the community wants to help these long term Mission artists, PFF will step up to help. If not, we will step back. I have heard the desire for the ground  floor to be used for job training classes in the new industries in SF. The community should be involved and decide.  This needs to be discussed in the next mtg. 

We need to get funding to retire the mortgage and the community has said that they will work on this and help negotiate with Griffith.  The community has expressed an interest in being involved in the direction that MLVS is moving into, going forward. There were dozens of people at the last mtg who have resources. I heard a pledge of $300k from the Latino leadership, and $1m from Tracy. I heard Kim's aide say the City budget is up and we need to get our requests for funding for 2017-2018 in. Has anything been done since last mtg?

There needs to be meetings daily, if needed, to solve these problems, not postponements​ and delays.
