The structured program will include some regular activities and games -
some monthly, some continuous. We will also make some decisions
regarding pinned threads.
I have promised to make the new Minors Major a more democratic group,
where feedback from members is welcome, appreciated and even expected!
Therefore, I will post my ideas for activities and games below, and if
you have any feedback regarding my ideas, or even better, ideas of your
own, please reply to this thread. Don't be shy! If I know what you
want, you will enjoy the group more when I introduce the activities you
suggest!
==IDEAS FOR MONTHLY ACTIVITIES==
Storytelling game: Every month, we will start a new story. The first
post in the story thread will outline the main ideas - i.e., the plot,
main characters, etc. Anyone can contribute the next paragraph of the
story. For example, I post the first paragraph, you continue with the
second paragraph, and someone contributes the third paragraph, and so
on.
War game: Every month, we will hold a war. The war can be between two
members of the group (e.g. Jake vs Olivia) or it can be between the
entire group and a foreign enemy (e.g. the sapling war, the Redmond
bombings). I hope everyone will enjoy these wars and not take them
seriously. You are encouraged to use your imaginations to think up
original and interesting weapons and methods of combat. The outcome of
the battle (i.e. who wins) will be decided at the end of the month.
Debates/Discussions: Every month, we will pick a debate topic and a
discussion topic. Please note the differences between debates and
discussions. In a debate, you try to convince everyone to accept your
viewpoint by giving supporting details and evidence. In a discussion,
there are no sides - everyone just tries to contribute information,
details and points. "Should corporal punishment be allowed in schools?"
is a debate topic. "Bullying in schools" is a discussion topic.
I suggest we have a thread where anyone can post their ideas for
stories, wars, debates and discussions. On the first of every month, I
will pick a story idea, war idea, debate topic and discussion topic and
start new threads for them. All threads for monthly activities will
follow a systematic title pattern. For example, if we had a war
entitled "The Redmond Bombings" for the month of August 2006, the war
would be conducted in a thread entitled "War for August 2006: The
Redmond Bombings"
==IDEAS FOR CONTINUOUS ACTIVITIES==
Word games: We already have Middle Two Reversed and Last Letter First
word games. However, I need more suggestions and ideas for word games.
If you have any ideas, please reply, posting the name and rules of the
game. Word games are a great way to increase one's vocabulary.
Trivia Quizzes/Brainteasers/Puzzles: Whar's the longest river in South
America? In which year was the Magna Carta signed? Shall we have a
trivia quiz to give everyone nuggets of interesting information and see
who has the most knowledge? In addition, do you remember a thread where
I posted logical brainteasers taken from a book published by Mensa?
Such logical brainteasers encourage us to harness the power of our
brain. I like James' "Unsolved Cases" threads, but they'd be more fun
if we could solve the cases through logical deduction. So, any more
suggestions for thinking games?
Jokes/Riddles/Quotes: We could have a thread for people to post jokes,
another for riddles, and another for quotes. Any ideas for other list
threads?
Since these activities will be continuous, we will not have to keep
creating new threads for them. In addition, the naming conventions for
these threads will be slightly different. For word games, the thread
title will be "Word Game:" followed by the name of the game. For
example, the thread for the Last Letter First game will be entitled
"Word Game: Last Letter First". As for the other continuous activities,
I encourage you to think up an interesting name for our trivia quiz, as
well as interesting titles for the other threads. My suggestions:
"Laughter, the Best Medicine" for jokes, "Hey Diddle Diddle, Tell Me a
Riddle" for riddles; and "Quotable Quotes" for quotes. (Yes, I stole
some titles from Reader's Digest.)
==IDEAS FOR PINNED THREADS==
Pinned threads are integral to the future of the group, as they are for
making important announcements and information for newcomers, as well
as for essential group proccesses. Therefore, giving them good names is
even more important.
We will have to decide on a set of 4-8 pinned threads.
My set is listed below, but I am always open to feedback and ideas:
-Icebreakers - Newcomers, Introduce Yourself Here!: This will be our
Icebreakers thread, except that the change in title will hopefully
attract more newcomers. In addition, established members will also have
to introduce themselves in this thread. This is so newcomers can get to
know everyone just by reading the thread.
-Newcomers, Please Read This Information: What information should I
put? A description of the group, links to our group website, some rules
and guidelines, and an FAQ?
-Advertise your group/website or give/request Gmail/orkut invites
here!: A merger of the advertisement and invite threads. Remember,
advertising can be useful, and called informing, if directed at the
right people. We can also spread Gmail and orkut with our invites!
-All Off-topic Chat Goes Here: Self-explanatory. This thread is for
off-topic chat, to reduce the bloat and increase the signal-to-noise
ratio in the other threads!
-Minors Major Discussion: Here we can discuss the group, with ideas for
advertising, activities, etc. and complaints. When you want to raise an
issue, open the ticket with the number next in line. That way, when we
are discussing multiple issues, and someone wishes to discuss your
issue, they can say "I am replying to Ticket 27".
==IMPORTANT NOTE==
The structured program will simply provide some supplementary
activities for the group and ensure it is well organized and there is
always something to do. We will continue to chat about topics of
interest in this group.
I don't really like "hi, how are u?" chat threads. Remember, if you
want to chat, you must have a topic. And preferably an interesting
topic.
Some other issues we will discuss, which may or may not be under the
structured program, will be the group website, the group description,
and inside jokes of the group.
Thanks for reading, and please contribute your feedback and
suggestions! Let's collaborate together to make Minors Major the No. 1
teen chat group on Google - no, the world!
nice.

Of course, if I don't get them, I'll have to make all the decisions
myself.

The Icebreakers and the FAQ, etc. for n00bs should be merged, to save
space, as all newcomers are expected to to read both threads.
The wars, such as 'Jake vs. Olivia' would be better. I doubt Saplings
will come here and participate, unless someone changes their nickname
to Sapling.
1. I don't want to.
2. All of my jokes are corny.
Thanks, Luke, for your feedback. I think there shouldn't be a problem
when people use "View titles only", but when they use "View with
message text", there might be a problem if too many threads are pinned.
If we merge the Icebreakers and FAQ threads, we'll have 4 pinned
threads.
We once had a sapling war. We battled imaginary saplings. Halfway
through the war, Anna changed her name to Sapling, then Wibble followed
suit.
In the Redmond bombings, we can all bomb Redmond with all kinds of
weapons we can imagine, and we don't need anyone to defend Redmond.
It's a great stress reliever. Of course, wars between members would be
more fun, as long as lurkers don't get the impression we are in a flame
war.
I will start a jokes thread, of course. What do you think the title
should be? Laughter, the Best Medicine? Anyone can contribute to the
jokes thread, so don't worry if your jokes are corny.
When I say the word corny, I mean very very very very very corny.
shark. xxx.
P.S. Jake, help me take the moderation off new members who joined
before we lifted the moderation on new members.
Please read through all my ideas and give feedback/suggestions on as
many as possible!
Remember, give feedback, and if I implement it, you'll enjoy the group
more!
J, I think that these are good ideas.
Tiff, I'm glad you like my ideas. But could you give any more
suggestions? For example, suggestions for word games?
I have my common tests on the first week of August, and besides, unless
everyone contributes, it's going to be difficult to finish working out
the details of the structured program in 10 days, so I will start the
August wars and other activities on 9 August, National Day for
Singaporeans.
I welcome your suggestions for wars, as well as all kinds of feedback
on the structured program. Remember, your ideas will help you enjoy the
group more, and if I don't get them, I'll have to make the decisions
myself.
Still, please contribute feedback/suggestions, as this structured
program will provide months of fun for the group!

There is a joke thread. Somewhere...
the end of the row.

Rose: Thanks. I agree we should not have more than 5 pinned threads.
Could you tell me more about the game 20 Questions?
Zac Kae and Mr Lonely: Yes, we will have a Riddles thread. What do you
think of the thread title "Hey Diddle Diddle, Tell Me a Riddle"?
There are two types of riddles: joke riddles and brainteaser riddles.
We'll keep the two types seperate.
Oh boy, I really need to get back into an English class. My teachers
would die of embarassment.
Older than time,
Yet stronger than rhyme.
It comes as easily as it is lost,
Although it leaves at a very great cost.
Turns the sensible foolish
And bewitches the mind...
What is it?
The overall would be upon 50. I put an emphasis on Creativity because I
don't want this to be like a really no-mistake essay writing
competition. For me, the way the story goes is more intriguing.
No seriously, I have all the ideas, but I just seem to get lost on
paper.
M
Zac Kae, don't we already have the storyelling game?
Too easy to cheat on.
Loganberry???
I created Minors Major because I wanted to have a group to chat with
other teens. Not because I want to boast about owning a group. Back
then there weren't many good teen groups, so I decided to create one,
and I was surprised at how successful it became.
And I'm pretty sure you joined Minors Major because you want to have a
place to chat with other teens. And you want to enjoy it.
Some of you think the "structured program" is an attempt to make Minors
Major more organized. But actually, it's little more than some new
games and activities for everyone to enjoy.
I'm trying to introduce more games and activities into this group for
one reason - I want to participate in and enjoy the games and
activities. And I'm sure you want to see more fun things to do in this
group - as you'll enjoy the group more.
As the group owner, I may seem distant or superior in your eyes. But
I'm actually a teen like most of you. For me, managing the group is
just an extra task - my main activity here is to enjoy the group. Of
course, with the recent events, I may seem like I'm trying to control
the group, but I'm doing that because I want to enjoy the group, and I
want everyone else to enjoy the group also.
So please co-operate with me. Be bold, be creative. Give me your
suggestions and feedback for the structured program. Remember, it's
just some new games and activities. I need your ideas for new games and
activities.
If you give me your ideas, and I implement them, then with all the new
games and activities, you'll enjoy the group more. So ultimately, when
you give me your ideas, you benefit - and everyone benefits. Please
help contribute to the group, so that we have a great, fun group - for
you to enjoy, and for everyone else to enjoy too. Just think: if we
have 10 members who each contribute 1 game/activity idea, won't we have
10 games/activities to enjoy?
Now that you've read this, go to the first page of the thread. Read my
first post thoroughly, and reply, giving as much feedback as you can,
and any ideas you have (especially where I request them - such as "I
need ideas for word games").
I hereby end my speech, and certify that my words are heartfelt.
Not really - I kind of like it when its not many active members - you'd
get to know everyone better if it were only a few active members.
> The structured program will include some regular activities and games -

If you're going to do this, it needs to get done quickly. This thread
has gone off topic, which is simply delaying, or ending the members'
input of what should happen. EVery member needs to post what they think
should happen. The sooner, the better.

The wars should be between 2 members, and others can join on which side
they choose. Tell me more, about how the outcome will be decided.

This is like a 'making decisions' thread, although it is a bit more
specific than this thread.

Already done.

I'm on the 'unsolved cases' thread, which will include slight errors
and clues, which will lead to the 'criminal', although killing seems a
bit brutal. I'll use deaths/murders sparingly.
> Jokes/Riddles/Quotes: We could have a thread for people to post jokes,

I will handle it.

We already have a jokes thread. 'Hey Diddle Diddle, Tell Me a Riddle'
and "Quotable Quotes (which has already been created, deemed inactive;
I'll make a sequel)" are good names for the threads.

Anything else?
If we attract more active members, they may become the next Tiff.
The structured program will kick off on 9 August (National Day here).
Therefore, we need to make all our important decisions quickly.
Of course, after 9 August I'll still welcome ideas for new games and
activities.
I'm glad you like my storytelling game idea. As for war games, the main
concern about having a war between 2 members is that they may forget
it's a game and start some real fighting.
I think the Making Decisions thread can entertain all submissions of
ideas for storytelling plots, debate/discussion topics, etc.
Word games: your comment was "Already done". But I still welcome new
ideas for word games. I recently received an idea through e-mail.
Basically, we have a 4-letter word, such as "poll", and we have to
change 1 letter to form a new word, such as "pole". What should i name
the game?
Besides the Unsolved Cases, I'll need more ideas for trivia quizzes and
brainteasers. I can get brainteasers from some books in my room, and I
can handle that. Who'll do the trivia quizzes?
Jokes: "Laughter, the Best Medicine" Riddles: "Hey Diddle Diddle, Tell
Me a Riddle" Quotes: "Quotable Quotes". I think that's settled. If you
have any more ideas for list threads, please present them.
You wholly support my ideas for the pinned threads.
Word Games - I'll get back to you on that.
Trivia - I think you should do both.
You and James will do Unsolved Cases, while I'll handle the logical
brainteasers. I'll see where I can find a trivia quiz that is not too
focused on a single country.
Please note that you can still propose any new ideas you have after the
structured program kicks off. I always welcome new ideas.
MONTHLY ACTIVITIES
-Storytelling Game
-War Game
-Discussion Topic of the Month
-Debate Topic of the Month
Due to lack of time, for the month of August, I'll come up with all the
ideas for a story, war, and the debate/discussion topics. In future,
we'll have a thread where you can give me your ideas.
CONTINUOUS ACTIVITIES
Word games:
-Last Letter First (green...natural...language...elephant...trick)
-Middle Two Reversed (tRAvel...hARdcore - hardCOre...mOCkingbird...)
-Switch-A-Letter (hole...Pole...polL...poOl...Cool...coAl...)
List threads:
-Laughter, the Best Medicine (Jokes)
-Hey Diddle Diddle, Tell Me a Riddle (Riddles)
-Quotable Quotes (Quotes)
-Did You Know? (Interesting Facts)
P.S. We could have more list threads about wordplay, such as
"Oxymorons", "Anagrams" and "Palindromes". We'll KIV this idea.
Quizzes and Brainteasers
-Unsolved Cases (James will provide the cases)
-*Brainteasers from Mensa (I'll provide the brainteasers)
-*Trivia Quiz (Jeff will provide the questions. 15 questions, 3
difficulties, 5 questions per difficulty)
-*Jeff's game, where you provide the clues to a word, and who guesses
it provides the next clues to his word. I'm thinking of a name - "Pass
the X" - but I need ideas for a word to fill up X.
PINNED THREADS
I will put the plan for the new pinned threads on hold for a few days.
I will keep the structured program thread up for a few days too, so
youcan give me more ideas. Remember, pinned threads are a commital
decision that must not be taken lightly.
And once we have all these new games and activities, you can still chat
about anything just as you used to. In fact, I think everyone should
start threads about their interests and chat about them. For example,
as a chess player, I could start a chess thread and chat about chess
with the rest of you (those who play chess, particularly).
James will have to provide us with his Unsolved Cases, while I must
find my book of brainteasers. We must think up a name for Jeff's game
where we post clues to a word.
We could also think about more list threads such as Oxymorons...
J, Don't worry about this so much. New thread topics always pop up. You
don't have to plan everything.
heehee :P
