Hi All

Im trxing to run Minix 1.1 on my 8088 Sanyo MBC 555. Which is not 8086 compatible. Mainly the BIOS.
I have a boot disk, I fixed 55 AA, I get a messy screen.
I have the source code, TASM and MASM
What could be the first step here or is it totally dead ?
Thank you

Try compiling with gcc-ia16

TARGET = kernel.bin
ASM = boot.asm
C_SRC = kernel.c

# 16-bit toolchain (adjust prefixes)
CC = i686-elf-gcc # Or your specific ia16-elf-gcc
AS = nasm

all: $(TARGET)

$(TARGET): $(ASM:.asm=.o) $(C_SRC:.c=.o)
 $(CC) -m16 -nostd

Totally dead.

It's a non "Standard" IBM XT compatible.

128k or 256K of ram, does not have a full bios and has a few video driver quirks which show up as garbage on the screen.

you will need to write driver's for hardware as it's also not like the IBM XT.

As for the 8088 vs 8086 compatibility,  the x88 is the x86 version except min/max modes are swapped and an external 8 bit instead of 16bit data bus.

So I made little progress. I think bootloader is pretty easy to make.
Kernel, I will see.
Minix 1.1 uses 329K on my Olivetti M24.
I could extend RAM in Sanyo to 256K + extension video card, might be possible.
With Gotek we have more memory than a 360K disk, so instead of having Minix in RAM, we could have a part on disk
