Why doesn't this project use timerInit for timer initialization?

It is only a couple of lines to initialize a timer and it was safer to
initialize just the one timer instead of all of them. timerInit in
the AVRlib codebase included in the Micropendous distribution has not
been thoroughly tested with the USB AVRs.
