No, LUFA-110528/Demos/Host/LowLevel/MIDIHost/MIDIHost.txt says that
you need Series 7 USB AVRs (AT90USBxxx7)

Yes, you can. I followed the 9.04 instructions on 11.04 and was able
to program my micropendous2.

Supposing I had the at90usbxxx7 micropendous, would I be able to use
the bootloader or do I need to get a programmer. I've been using my
old avropendous as a programmer.

No programmer is needed. Unless you ask me to program a specific
bootloader a Micropendous board comes with the default factory-
programmed Atmel bootloader on the USB AVR IC.

If you already have a USB AVR board or AVR Programmer you will be
able to update the bootloader on any of the Micropendous boards if you
ever need to.
