PLEASE bring in your outdoor bots - Jeepbots, drones, boat-bots, etc!
Be sure to read the "Waterbot Build Challenge", below... - Keith

This month's meeting theme is "Outdoor Bots" - Land/Water/Air
Discussions and/or show&tell about anything that runs outside,
whether in brush, gravel, grass, on/over/under water
or in the air (drones, etc).

Here's a SIMPLE "Build Challenge" for this month. Bring in a
design, thoughts about it, or an actual thrown together item.
--------------------------------------------
WATERBOT BUILD CHALLENGE - Try to make something SIMPLE
for this month's meeting that "deals with water"..
IE: can you quickly hack a toy boat into a boat-bot,
or make a Tupperware container, scrap of 2x4, pool
noodle, or slice of wall insulation putter around your bathtub?
(Remember the "Tadro", that was shown at a prior meeting?)
... What's possible, in a simple hack?

I'm thinking about a simple "riverboat) waterbot, using a
block of wood plus continuous rotation servos driving paddle wheels.

What's the SIMPLEST paddle wheel design you can
think of, (VERY quick fab), that's light weight, and
can be screwed onto a servo horn to paddle a slice of
wood around?

BTW, I've noticed that a crude "water omnibot" could easily
be made from four servo paddle wheels, one on each of the
four sides of a square of wood with tapered bottom edges.
After all, the paddle wheels ARE "omnicastors"... (grin)

I have the blades fabricated (lots of 6" x 1.25" x 0.25" plastic strips)
I'm also thinking of switching from wood to insulating foam blocks.
Easier fab.

Now... How to make a HUB...
Any ideas, on a simple way to tie the blades to a Parallax cont-rot
servo horn?
... I'm tinkering with some ideas, but have nothing LIGHT designed yet.

BTW... Is anyone ELSE tinkering with a water-bot for this month's
meeting yet?

REMINDER: Please bring in your outdoor bots to this Wednesday's meeting!
Drones, Jeepbots, etc..

Is anyone else playing with a simple waterbot design?

I'm making progress on my paddle wheels... I have a cool prototype,
but it's not as "clean" as I'd like, yet. Still refining the fab
process.
Hope to tweak the process a bit tomorrow and have a better copy
(time allowing).
