Hope the weather isn't too awful.
I never really felt 100% for the race and the bad weather forecast did
not help. There were some stiff headwind gusts at certain points in
the race, but I knew it was going to be a tough day when I split 8:12
for the first "flat" mile - 5, and it already felt like work. I
soldiered on and using the downhills and screaming Wellsley girls,
managed to come through the ½ in 1:45:47.
The first 'heartbreak' got me through the 18th mile in 8:33, but I was
deteriorating badly and the second hill saw me thru the 20th in 8:43,
and 21st in 9:10.
After all the downhills to Beacon Street, I couldn't decide if it hurt
less to walk or to run, and alternated doing both for the last 3 miles
to finish in 3:38:49.
So I split 1:45:47/1:53:02. I played out the death march yesterday
because it was my first Boston so I wanted the experience of the
course.
The biggest mistake I think I made was trying the "carbo depletion".
I probably did it all wrong, and I never felt right all of last week,
even when I switched back into carbo loading phase. Also, 2 very bad
colds in February and March really messed up my training. Still.... I'd
happily try again.
Tough day for a run.
