What really annoys me is that conservative hawks are resorting to
cheap rhetorical tricks to maintain support of the war by equating
criticism of the war with lack of support for our troops. If that's
the case then we might as well elect a dictator and forget about
democracy and public debate. Do people really believe that a
democratic public should not scrutinzie the rationale for and conduct
of a war? These are the same people who haven't funded adequately
armoured Humvees for our troops. The hypocrisy is nauseating. I
supported the war based on what my governement told me was true and my
confidence that they could execute the war competently. Now I know
most of everything they said was not true and they are incompetent.
Based on past performance, I am very leery of anything Bush says about
Iran. I do not trust that he is telling me the truth, but even if he
did, I do not trust that he could successfully execute an anti-Iranian
effort. If we can't get Iraq right, how do we address Iran? The
problem with Bush is he's lost the support of the reasonable middle. I
actually believe in identifying threats and addressing them. I just
don't think Bush and his neo-con cronies have a clue about execution.
Repeat after me: Ideology makes you stupid. Look at facts, and act on
them. Reality based government is good. Ideology based government is
bad.
