Dear Scouts and Scouters,

Merit Badges are critical to Scout Advancement, and there are many
merit badge opportunities available at www.MeritBadge.info this
spring. Two of the many events are described below.

1.)
WHEN: February 28, 2009
WHAT: 6th Troop 1776 Merit Badge Day, 14 MERIT BADGE CLASSES
WHERE: Catholic Church of St. Ann - 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA

REGISTRATION: Now thru Feb 18, 2009 (online registration only)

MERIT BADGE CLASSES OFFERED:
Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation,
Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Energy, Environmental
Science, Family Life, Nuclear Science, Personal Fitness, Personal
Management, Photography and Stamp Collecting.

2.)
WHEN: March 14, 2009
WHAT: ATLANTA AREA COUNCIL COIN COLLECTING MERIT BADGE EXTRAVAGANZA

WHERE: The Atlanta Area Council Volunteer Service Center - 1800
CIRCLE 75 PARKWAY, ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30339
REGISTRATION: Now thru March8, 2009 (online registration only)

SOME DETAILS:
• This will be a great opportunity to learn all about coins from
the experts!

• Scouts may arrive anytime after 9:00 AM to partake of the many
different activities which are offered in addition to earning your
badge. But be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your reserved
badge testing time, otherwise you may lose your appointment and it may
not be possible to obtain a new time, depending upon availability.
Scouts who do not wish to earn the badge are also welcome to attend
this Extravaganza and enjoy the other actives.

CLINIC AGENDA:
• Three different movies (each 30-40 minutes) will be shown
continuously:

1. “MONEY: HISTORY IN YOUR HANDS” (narrated by James Earl Jones).

2. “THE MONEY STORY” (produced by the United States Mint & Bureau
of Engraving and Printing).

3. “U. S. MINT – MONEY MACHINES” (produced by the History Channel).

• Informational stations will be staffed by representatives of:

1. The Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta (MCCA – web address is
www.MCCATL.org).

2. The Georgia Numismatic Association. (GNA)

3. The American Numismatic Association (ANA – web address is
www.Money.org)

• Several exhibits of coins and currency will be available for
viewing.

• And, last but not least, “George Washington” will be present,
instructing history lessons about money and passing out free coin
samples to all registered participants!
