Hi Egbert,

I fully agree with your observation. If you don’t mind, I will pass your feedback along to the people behind the network. Otherwise it seems like a potentially good idea.

Kind regards

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for posting this. Looks of potential interest, once people will start contributing.

Only downside is that it is so anonymous. Not a single indication who set up the website, who 'owns' it, etc. Do you know more?
Without being overly paranoid, I would not like to sign up to such a site if it does not have any 'about us' information.

The good and reliable source on psychosocial support is the web page of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. They have a reference center for psychosocial support. Web page is:http://psp.drk.dk/sw2955.asp

Hi Egbert,

The site is Okay.
It is strange that they have not made clear who the initiators are.
It is a new initiative called the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Network.
It is aimed at emerghencies and 'other situations of extreme stress'.

The initiative is coordinated by Alison Strang of Queen Margaret University, with Mike Wessels (Columbia), Amanda Melvile (UNICEF) among others. It has been extensively discussed in different fora, such as the former Psychosocial WorkinG Group and the IASC Reference Group MHPSS in Emergencies and some regionalnetworks (REPPSI and TPO Uganda being among them).

THere is a starting subsidy from UNICEF but they are looking for about 10 organisations willing to financially contribute something.

The IASC reference group MHPSS will use one 'coin' of the website as their space for posting materials related to MHPSS in emergencies.
I propose that our google group could also move to this site, but we need to know whether we could still continue to have our own listserve (I mean that thos who are interested in MHFS can remain connected as a subgroup within the broader network).

Peter

Thanks, Peter, for clarifications.

It's a good initiative, but would indeed be good if its origins are declared. Nothing to be modest about!

best, egbert
