Why?
Men have defined their masculinity by making fun of each other for
doing things that women do. For many years men and women made fun of
each other for crossing imaginary gender lines. While these lines have
been fairly clear to most people, they are meaningless and no longer
applied equally.
Women can put their hands on their hips any way that they like, yet it
is still somehow wrong for men to put the backs of their hands to their
hips. Women have broken the stereotypes that were put upon them by men
and by other women.
Interestingly enough, our society does not recognize new standards
equally. While women have broken their molds, they along with men have
continued to expect men to fit into an unrealistic and imaginary mold.
The issue here is that we hold each other to standards that we are used
to without considering the standards that we are being held to. The
better solution is for people to be themselves without making any
effort to dictate how other people should act. There is one caveat to
that, every person must make sure that they do not hurt other people
with their actions or words.
If all people expressed themselves individually and without judgment
there would be no reason for unnatural and unrealistic gender
standards. Generally speaking there are no hand gestures or poses that
are truly masculine or feminine. Self-expression should not be limited
by the judgment or fear of judgment by others.
