Tonight is the Chili Cook-Off downtown from 5-8 pm. Whether you are cooking up some chili, staying open late for First Thursday, or strolling around tasting all the entries, let's support all the participants listed below! See you on the street!
KARMA ON THIRD (200 W. Third)
Chef Sherry and staff will be working up a "healthy & yummy" vegetarian chili recipe. We hope everyone will come by, taste a little sample, and tell us what you think! If you like it, we may add it to the menu!
MELVILLE TRADING COMPANY (137 W. Clay)
Our entry for the chili cook-off is award-winning McKinley Street Chili from Melville merchant Penny Hawkins. Penny's chili has won several chili competitions including the Times-News chili cook-off, the North Carolina Beef Council chili cook-off at the State Fair, and a People's Choice award at the Dick and Jane's Martini and Tapas Bar chili competition. Stop by and sample "the best chili you ever ate!" Also, all "in stock" unfinished furniture is 10% off for First Thursday shoppers.
ROSIE'S MERCANTILE (121 W. Clay)
Amazing is the word Rosie's using to describe their chili. Curious? Don't miss tasting a sample and also enjoying other goodies they have prepared for you!
REED'S DOWNTOWN TABLE (119 W. Clay)
Reed's will be serving up samples of our Special Secret Sultry Coffee Shop Chili! We like to call it "Rowdy and Robusta!" Come on in, get a little rowdy, and try it.
QUIRKS (118 W. Clay)
Oh how we love Autumn! Quirks is celebrating with Quirky BACON scented Man-Cans CANDLES at an amazing 50% off during October's First Thursday hours. And yes, of course, Quirks will have some "mouth-watering chili" for you to sample, along with our delicious family-recipe Sangria.
FINE ART CAROLINA (116 W. Clay)
"It's Not Chili, But It's Hot!"
Fine Art Carolina Gallery will be the destination of choice for lovers of chocolate and heat. Pat Scheible will be handing out samples of her Jalapeno Brownies. Chocolate and art—a match made in Heaven!
HOLLYHOCKS (102-C W. Clay)
Hollyhocks is mixing up the competition by serving "Chicago-style" chili. Be sure to stop by and sample this favorite from the windy city! Also, all gray card earrings will be on sale at 30% off and new fall arrivals are here!
SOLGARDEN (115 N. Fourth)
The folks at Solgarden are being a little mysterious about the origins of their "chili" recipe. Guess you'll just have to stop by and take a taste!
XTREME DANCE ACADEMY (202-A N. Fifth)
They're not just dancers...they cook too! Xtreme Dance will be serving up samples of their homemade chili beginning at 4 pm. Stroll on down and take a taste...they are only a short 1 block walk from Clay & N. Fourth.
