 a message from Jerry

I DON'T THINK IT WILL EVER STOP

We are now in our seventh year of fighting cancer. First leukemia that required a transplant, then a cancerous tumor along the spine that sent her back to chemo, adding radiation and much more. You would think she was ready to say that's it, I am tired  and no longer wish to light mountains. Especially after having to cancel this year's fundraiser over health issues, after spending a month plus fighting an infection that caused her to take med after med and see doctor after doctor.
Why do I bring this up. Well, it had to do with a clinic visit two Friday's ago at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. She was exhausted from the past month of fighting this infection. She was ready to undergo another pet scan  (by the way, circumstances were such that we had to reschedule after attempting to do that).
The clinic happened to be busy and we were waiting in the reception room with lots of other people. She turns to me and says do we still have money in our foundation account. I told her we were ok. She says, call the Brown...these people need to have something to do while waiting. Let's purchase a wall mounted TV so they can pass the time.
Case closed.  She just won't stop lighting mountains so others will have it easier.
By the way, I know Meghan would love to see you on September 24th at Adath Jeshurun Congregation as they honor her for her work with those fighting cancer. It's free and dress can be nice casual. An evening with an award  winning recording artist, a Louisville radio and TV legend, a popular radio show host and an artistic and gifted Cantor of a large, local synagogue. And a very beautiful young lady who makes a habit of lighting mountains for others. And you can say hi to Meghan and all those participating at a wonderful dessert reception following the program. For more information go to our web site, www.meghansmountain.com and on the home page click on the words in red, A Country Selichot. You can also get the information on facebook by looking under the events section for "A Country Selichot".

  See you there.

  Jerry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Country Music meets Jewish Soul to Benefit Cancer Patients

Louisville, Kentucky, Monday, September 12, 2011 – What happens when an award-winning recording artist; a Louisville Radio and TV legend; a popular public Radio show host; an artistic and gifted Cantor of a large, local Synagogue – all get together to entertain and inform the public about a cancer Foundation?  The answer?  It becomes an evening called, “Country Music With Jewish Soul.”

The entire evening of Saturday, September 24 is a tribute and fundraiser for Louisville resident, Meghan Steinberg and “Meghan’s Mountain” Foundation.  When Meghan was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago, she and her Dad, Jerry, decided to fight the cancer in a number of ways, including the creation of “Meghan’s Mountain,” a non-profit charitable foundation that raises money for what Meghan defines as “direct patient care.”  All of the money raised during this or any other evening’s event will directly benefit cancer patients and their family members. No matter what the size of the cancer hospital or institution, there are never enough funds to cover everything.

Hands clapping; feet tapping will be the order of the evening starting at 8:15PM, Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the auditorium of Adath Jeshurun Synagogue, 2401 Woodbourne Avenue in Louisville.  “Country Music With Jewish Soul” is an opportunity for everyone in the Louisville area to come together and be entertained by award-winning local singer, Mickey Clark, along with The Blue Norther.  Mickey’s latest album, “Winding Highway” features some outstanding artists including, Sam Bush, John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker.

Emcee for the evening will be Louisville broadcasting legend, Wayne Perkey.  Additional highlights of the program will be WFPK’s John Gage recording his “Kentucky Homeland” radio program during the event.

Some of the local health care centers and hospitals scheduled to receive a portion of the evening’s donations include Kosair Children’s Hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital Brownsbobo, James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Camp Quality Kentucky, Indian Summer Camp, Gilda’s Club of Louisville, UK HealthCare, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Lexington.

Adath Jeshurun’s Cantor David Lipp said, “This exciting and fun evening will raise our awareness of cancer particularly striking young people while we enjoy Mickey Clark’s terrific talent, eat some great desserts and otherwise have a grand time in fellowship.”

Meghan said, “The outpouring of love and support I have always received from my Louisville brothers and sisters is an exceptional example of the big, caring, responsive hearts that make this city so wonderful.  I look forward to seeing everyone on September 24.”

This program is made possible through a Louisville Jewish Community Excellence Grant provided by Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services.
