I have found 3 things affect the scanning of bar codes:
- size
- print quality
- white space between the bars
Feel free to fax ( 509-624-3862 ) me a bar code from your TEST environment;
I'll take a very quick look at it for you.

Subject: Re: [MEDITECH-L] Help
We are really struggling with getting a patient lable with a 128 barcode to
print and be read correctly with a scanner into our glucose system. We have
used datamax M Class printers and also a Citizen barcode printer, we have
tried using generic drivers with fargo identified on the meditech client
setup, we have tried using the seagull drivers, and a pass through driver.
Is there any trick in the npr to getting these to print correctly so they
can be read by a barcode scanner. These are created in the adm module. We
have barcodes printing in our lab and pharmacy and they read fine using a
citizen printer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We went through a similar situation when we needed to get the barcodes to
read for our forms with our Scanning & Archiving project. One trick that an
NPR specialist showed me was to create 2 computed fields, both of them with
the same settings, and place them on the report picture one directly under
the other.
If the barcodes still cannot be read, ask for the following changes in
regards to the CODE.128 barcodes:
MIS 8591
NPR 3649
MIS 8888
NPR 3595
NPR 3619
Tell them to refer to task #5085912 if necessary. These changes will
basically allow you to use a second argument in the SIZE attribute in a
computed field to specify the width of the barcode. Here are some examples
that MEDITECH gave me:
SIZE=3 --> A three line barcode of normal width
SIZE=2,5 --> A two line barcode that is 2.5 times wider than normal
SIZE=,3 --> A one line barcode that is 1.5 times wider than normal
SIZE=S --> A short barcode of normal width
SIZE=X,L --> A tall barcode that is extra wide
SIZE=,V --> A one line barcode that is extra wide
Their recommendation for the barcodes on our forms for SCA was SIZE=1,3.7.
So far, this size has worked perfectly for our forms, so this may possibly
be just the size you need for your labels.
You will not be able to use the second argument for the SIZE attribute
without the changes mentioned above. Please let me know if you have any
questions.

An example of a formulary comment might be like this:
Any order written for Perindopril will be filled with Lisinopril
PERINDOPRIL.................LISINOPRIL
2mg Daily 5mg Daily
4mg Daily 10mg Daily
8mg Daily 20mg Daily
16mg Daily 40mg Daily
On the report I am only getting the last line. Obviously these are all
free text entries in the drug dictionary. How do I get all of the lines
to print? Should I be using a different LC?
Thanks for any/all input, as you can probably tell I'm not well versed
in NPR.
