Does anyone know if it is possible to send a notification/alert/message to a cell phone or pager when an order has been placed from a location such as the ED?  If so can you please tell me how to set this up?  We are trying to improve turn around time on critical labs and x-rays.

Thanks!

I am actually working with Forward Advantage today to get a smart route set up to send pages for:

1.             A page for ED Respiratory Care orders. We added the ER Room on our requisitions, set up all of the RC RFS orders to print to our Forward Advantage outque, then added a print rule to only print if the location is ED. Plan on sending a page that will display as: ER ROOM: 06  54/M  Hand Held Nebulizer

2.             A page our Triage Nurse when we Receive the patient (excluding patients with EMS as their name – those are entered by Nursing Staff). This was set up in MIS & ADM Messages, will send: Triage: 0805  56M  Stated Complaint

3.             Transfer and Discharge notices to our EVS and House Supervisor pagers. Set up through MIS and ADM Messages. Will send DISCHARGE: SUR  3115 or TRANSFER: PCU 2108

4.             Admit request from the EDM tracker. It’s set up through the Bed Board Notification, so it’s a little different set-up, but still sends an ADT notice.

We’ll see how it all works out. The only iffy one is the Bed Request. It was an add on and I’m trying to talk them into adding the notice. We did not set up to generate through the Bed Board Notification because each PC that sends a notification must have a modem attached (as we understand it).

I'm currently trying to set up MIS notifications now,but have this
workaround for alpha pagers

1. set up user for pager in MIS, on page 3 enter wireless pager number
555...@verizon.com or whatever
2. Set up OA message in MIS OA message dictionary and set that user as a
recipient.
3. Kick off OA message from any query response.
FCL1=IF{@p.ADM.PAT.location="ER" %MIS.OA.MSG.auto("CT PAGE")}

The downsides - you can't include any patient info since it goes over
the web; no tracking ability as in the MIS notifications, the oa message
goes as soon as the condition on the query is met, if they user exits
without filing the message still goes. This seems to annoy the
recipients somewhat!
