That appears to be a reasonable expectation of clinical events. We
would like a custom that displays the number of hours an observation
patient has been in the hospital to display on the Nursing Status Board.

Hello,
We are on Magic 5.62 and I am wondering how other sites are handling the
faxing of the ICR Notification Letters to their providers? Currently we
are manually faxing them and this is very time consuming for our HIM
staff. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Be very careful doing this. If you put an analyst or coordinator in
another department, they invariably get pulled into the day to day
duties and operations and you lose valuable resources dedicated to
support from an IT perspective. They will come back to IT for that
missing support.

We are discussing changing the structure of IT-Applications at our
facility. Currently we have an IT Manager, Operations, Report Writers,
5 Business Analyst's, Informatics Coordinator and a CPOE Coordinator.
There has been some discussion on creating several Application
Coordinators and taking the analysts and operators and placing them in a
"support roll". The Application Coordinators would be responsible for
project management, scoping projects, organizing and implementing
upgrades, etc. The support group would do just that, support the
applications by performing the upgrade testing,
add/change/deletes/fixes, etc. Has any other sites moved towards this
type of structure? How is it working for you and are you willing to
share any job description documents you have created?

Hello,

I'd like to hear how other sites are billing out of OE. Currently we
have categories that were specifically created for charging. For
example we have a "Respiratory Therapy" category and a "Respiratory
Charges" category. It is my understanding that these were created to
avoid billing errors(because an RN could order one procedure but
respiratory might actually perform another). I think we can consolidate
the categories and simply charge out of one. How do you handle this?

Thanks

We are setting up an OE procedure (Category=NUR) that has a billing code
attached and sends an assessment to the patients' nursing profile for

documented twice a day and dropping two charges.

Howdy!

I need to evaluate whether the patient's insurance #1 or #2 or #3 is one
of a list of insurances, and if so, make the variable a "1", otherwise
make the variable="2".

Below is how I have written the macro. This works when I use the same
logic as a computed NPR field inside the report, but not when used as
part of a macro. Please let me know where I have gone off-track. On my
report I do not get any values at all.

At the top of the macro I have defined all 4 variables that I am using:
PAYMT.SRC,
INS1,
INS2,
INS3

This is the macro:
PAYMT.SRC
""^/INS1^/INS2^/INS3^/PAYMT.SRC,
@ins.mnemonic[1]^/INS1,@ins.mnemonic[2]^/INS2,@ins.mnemonic[3]^/INS3,
IF{/INS1="MEDICARE" "1";
/INS2="MEDICARE" "1";
/INS3="MEDICARE" "1";
/INS1="MCARE/RR" "1";
/INS2="MCARE/RR" "1";
/INS3="MCARE/RR" "1";
/INS1="MEDA ONLY" "1";
/INS2="MEDA ONLY" "1";
/INS3="MEDA ONLY" "1";
/INS1="MCARESC" "1";
/INS2="MCARESC" "1";
/INS3="MCARESC" "1";
/INS1="M DEMAND" "1";
/INS2="M DEMAND" "1";
/INS3="M DEMAND" "1";
"2"}^/PAYMT.SRC

This is how I defined the computed field inside the NPR report:
DAT=FREE
JFY=L
LEN=6
VAL=/PAYMT.SRC

Thank you very much for your help!!

I'm assuming you already have a report that codes for printing to 3x10
labels on an HP Laser type printer.

One way to do this would be to have a prompt for urn (or patient name or
whatever), and another prompt reading as follows:
xx.num IG Number of Labels 30 [30 would be your default
value]

Then, on page 3, have a variable xx.num as follows
DAT=PINT
JFY=R
LEN=2
VAL=1

And, on the first label line, have an ECB check like this:
ECB=""^CNT,DO{CNT+1^CNT'>c.xx.num .,

And on the last line of the label, you want this:
ECE=.},

Charlie, I'm not afraid to respond - we've had the same discussions
here.
The 6/5/09 revision of the CMS State Operations Manual for surveyors;
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/Downloads/som107ap_a_hospitals.pdf
refers to within 30 minutes of the scheduled time. I failed to find the
actual regulation that spells out the 30 minute standard. I challenge
any surveyor to meet the standard if they have 6 patients , each with 20
meds on a skilled nursing unit (or med/surg for that matter), to meet
the 30 minute standard. You can only do it by bypassing the safety
standards put in place to prevent errors. The policy should reflect what
you do, not what a surveyor expects to see. If the medical staff approve
a 60 minute policy, pointing out the safety concerns within the policy,
if may be harder for the surveyor and CMS to nail you too severely.
Better to describe what you do than claim a policy that can't be
supported by data.

under supervision of, nursing or other personnel in accordance with
Federal and State laws and regulations, including applicable licensing
requirements, and in accordance with the approved medical staff policies
and procedures.
Survey Procedures ?482.23(c)(1)
Verify that there is an effective method for the administration of
drugs. Use the following indicators for assessing drug administration:
*
Verify that there are policies and procedures approved by the medical
staff covering who is authorized to administer medications, and that the
policies are followed.
*
Review a sample of medication administration records to see that they
conform with the practitioner's order, that the order is current, and
that drug and dosage are correct and administered as ordered.
*
Observe the preparation of drugs and their administration to patients in
order to verify that procedures are being followed. Are patients
addressed by name and/or
identity checked? Does the nurse remain with the patient until
medication is taken? Are drugs administered within 30 minutes of the
scheduled time for administration?

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Medication Administration Window

We are currently in the process of bringing up e-MAR/BMV are not
sure as
to what to set the parameter "eMAR Variance Limit" because of the CMS
window. It is our understanding that CMS has a requirement that all
medications be given within 30 minutes (before or after) of the
scheduled
administration time. The nurses are saying that this is an unrealistic
expectation and that 60 minutes is more realistic. How are you dealing
with
this issue? What would happen if we set this parameter at 60 minutes but
had
30 minutes in our policy (in which case a large percentage of
administrations would fall outside of the 30 minute period)? At what
percentage is this a problem with CMS? And, if it is a problem, what are
the
repercussions? We are at a point where we just don't know what to do.

Thanks,

Hi Doug,

Here's one way to simplify this:

In a macro associated with AL START, set up:

1^/INS["MEDICARE"]^/INS["MCARE/RR"]^......

Then, in the detail macro or custom field:

IF{/INS[@ins.mnemonic[1]];/INS[@ins.mnemonic[2]];/INS[@ins.mnemonic[3]];
2}

Good luck,

We would like to know how other facilities track outpatient wait times.
For example, if a patient has been registered for Cardiac Diagnostics
and the tech/nurse has not come to get the patient in a timely manner,
the registration staff can do a follow-up with the performing
department. This would also allow the registrar to give the patient an
update as to the reason for the delay. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone tried to create a report showing unsigned scanned documents
from MRM that are in PCI (Scanning and Archiving). I'm sure it's going
to be from MRM.SCAN, I just can't seem to find the right fields. We're
trying to keep track of unsigned scanned documents that doctors still
have in PCI
Thanks.

Hi All
I am trying to call an external program from Meditech Client/Server and
pass along a variable such as the current username.

I've been able to setup up a report in the Z segment with a CLOSE.UP
macro that calls the program, but before it runs the program, it
presents the standard Meditech View/Print/Download prompt. I want to
suppress this prompt, but can't figure out how. I found a really old
mention of how to do this in the L archives, but it references an
attachment that isn't available!!

Can anyone advise on how to do this?

Here's the code I'm using to call the program and pass the user
mnemonic:
@Shell.execute("http://fs-tbrhsc-audit/ISTaskSystem&userid="_@.user (
'http://fs-tbrhsc-audit/ISTaskSystem&userid="_@.user' ))

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! kt

Hello Rita and Happy FRIDAY to all!

Now normally, forgetting to call the macro, would have been the sort of
brain cramp that I would have overlooked, however, in this particular
circumstance I AM getting other variables in the macro to work, so yes,
I do have the macro called from a footnote.

(I did have to look and double check though!)

Thank you for responding.

Why not just do something shorter?

Assuming you have the necessary subscripts:

DO{>/L.INS[""]^ZAPPED ""^/L.INS[ZAPPED]},
""^ins.seq,
DO{@Next(ins.seq) 1^/L.INS[@ins.mnemonic]},
IF{/L.INS["MEDICARE"];
/L.INS["MCARE/RR"];
/L.INS["MEDA ONLY"];
2}^/PAYMT.SRC

(You define PAYMT.SRC with a value every time the macro is called, no
need
to nil it).

Maybe mrm.docid.markers? It has fields at the bottom marker.doctor,
marker.reason, marker.status (UNSIGNED, SIGNED), etc....

We don't go live with SCA for three more weeks, so I'd love to see if

Has anyone tried to create a report showing unsigned scanned documents
from MRM that are in PCI (Scanning and Archiving). I'm sure it's going
to be from MRM.SCAN, I just can't seem to find the right fields. We're
trying to keep track of unsigned scanned documents that doctors still
have in PCI
Thanks.

Here's a quick question, the answer to which I should know (but
don't)...

I have a report running out of PP.PER (could be any DPM), where I am
selecting for the @dept variable range GE a given mnemonic and LE a
given mnemonic. I have it defaulting to BEGINNING and END.

I have a report header where I print b.dept and e.dept to show the range
selected. It's fine if I type in values for the selection, but the
BEGINNING and END simply show up as small boxes.

Knowing that BEGINNING and END are D(127) values, I tried to code them
in by saying:

VAL="Dept Range: from "_IF{b.dept=D(127) "Beginning";b.dept}_" to
"_IF{e.dept...[etc]}

But I still get the square boxes. Any suggestions?

I know that this isn't a Meditech related question, but since there are
a
lot of Meditech users in Canada, I hope that someone can offer some
advice.

My wife and I are driving from Maryland to Niagra Falls, Toronto,
Ottawa,
and Montreal. I saw on the web that there is a municipal strike going on
in
Toronto. So, my question is will this impact us and should we avoid
Toronto,
or will it be the type of thing that we as tourists won't even notice.
Also,
if anyone from Ontario has any hints of where to stay and what to see,
could
you please e-mail me with your personal e-mail address and phone number
at
crd...@hotmail.com just in case I have any further questions. And, if
your
are ever in the Maryland area, I will be glad to repay the favor.

Hello all,
We are looking at implementing the Flexible Benefits piece of the HR
module here in the next couple of months and I was wondering if anyone
would be willing to give us feedback on if they are using it and how it
works for them(good or bad). Meditech has told us it is a pretty big
build so we are expecting this.

Thanks in advance!

Good Morning,

My CFO would like to know how many other facilities are using the
Meditech
Budgeting and Forecasting and if so how do you like it? If you do not
have
the Meditech product, is there another product you are using?

If you have a 3rd party vendor, do you have an interface with Meditech.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
