Hi,

Does anyone have MIS Report Scheduler set up to print (or download) .pdf files instead of .txt files?

An alternative would be to convert them to .pdf after they are downloaded. But my testing so far has thrown off the formatting when changed to .pdf files.

Thanks,

Depending on your application, Interbit Data has NetSafe and NetDelivery that can both be used to accomplish that.

If you are Magic or C/S you can dump your reports from Meditech in PCL.  Then you can convert the PCL to PDF on the PC.
This will retain all your graphics.  Bold, Italics, Boxes, Gray Bars, etc...

You can search for a freeware PCL to PDF converter.  I have used this one.  It would be nice to donate to the author if you go that route.

To dump a file as PCL, you need to do several things like set up the printer as an HPLASER even though you are printing to DOWNLOAD.

Re-set up the printer after Meditech does....
(Like in a start macro)

"HPLASERIIII"^/R.PRT.DEV,
%Z.printer("NPR",Your.Report.Name),

If you want to create several PDF files in 1 report, it can be done.

You need to allocate an SAF in your own Magic Directory for Magic, or on your PC in C/S.
You will need to re-route the output to the SAF.

I have written a dump for a MAGIC hospital that takes one specimen at a time, dumps the internal inquiry to a folder on the PC.
Converts it to PDF, and then deletes the PCL.

It can't be spooled, as Meditech must be linked to a PC when running the report in order for the calls to %Z.copy.saf.to.pc.flat and %Z.dos.link.no.file to function correctly.

We use a cheap alternative, NovaPDF, took a bit of work, but retains the formatting and can still allow the pdf to download to a file location. We use it for downtime MARs and such.

We weren’t able to get those traditional pdf converters to work in the download report stream, and retain the print settings, in our 6.07 operation. Perhaps those work OK in other Meditech versions, but the 6.x stuff has some conflicts on the file download side that negated some of the traditional pdf converters. That’s why NovaPDF came in very handy.

Have you tried CutePDF printer.   Free download on the web.   Easy to use.   Choose it like you do a printer and then it comes up and asks the file you want to print it to.

Meditech has an extensive KB article on this if you wanted to review it. It is KB 39291.
