Hello,

We are a 500 Bed Level 1 Trauma center looking to coordinate hospital
wide Inpatient Scheduling. We've have identified a few major challenges
and are interested in knowing if a comparable hospital in the Meditech
community has had success scheduling their Inpatient care via the CWS
and OR-SCH modules. Our biggest challenges are:

1) Incorporating the ability to handle emergency cases. We see
roughly 70,000 Emergency visits a year. 80% of our inpatient visits
come from the ER. In light of this, we have identified emergency cases
as a challenge for success.

2) Identifying the level of expertise required for a team of
schedulers is another area of concern. We are looking to see how
critical it is for a scheduler to understand the technical end of
inpatient procedures such as MRI's Echos and EKG's.

Hello Joe,
I was very excited when I saw the subject line of your email. I, too am
working on this. Only I have been getting negative feedback in some areas.
I think scheduling inpatients would be a perfect solution to PT THROUGHPUT,
and coordination of services. But, at our institution right now, it's almost
like a "new invention" this CS module.
I am, however, confident, that we can implement this sometime in the future,
since we have a lot of smart people that work here!
As for your question about how much info a scheduler needs to know for some
areas, MRI, EMG, etc.
One way around this is what I did for my Nuclear Medicine Department, I just
created a GENERIC test, so the scheduler can simply "reserve the slot". And
certain CDS would prevent the wrong exam going to the slots.
Although I cannot offer you any suggestions at the moment, I would very much
be interested to see how you accomplish this! Please keep me informed.
Thanks!!!
