[MEDITECH-L] Sound card on laptop

When I dial in from home using my laptop and attempt to enter something in a
field incorrectly, I get that familiar annoying beep. I've muted my laptop
speaker and still get the beep. My wife and kids find this noise very
annoying (it is so loud that it can be heard throughout the house). Does
anyone out there know how to disable the sound on a laptop (mine is a Dell)
to get rid of the Meditech beeps?

Charlie, go into the Settings, Control Panel on the laptop, Sounds & Audio Devices, Sounds tab. Remove the sound from (set to "none") the event (probably Critical Stop). You could also adjust the sound level while there.

You are hearing the system beep, here is how to disable. Let me know if you have any problems.

Start < Control Panel < System < hardware < Device Manager

In the View menu click "show hidden devices" Now under "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" find "beep" right click it and press "disable" is the prompt that comes up press yes and then yes again, you computer should the restart (if it dose not restart if yourself) and you will never hear the bleep again.

Do not Change any other device in Device Manager unless you know what you are doing, as it will cause problems.

All other sounds made by the computer can be turned off by going to:

Start < control panel < Sounds and Audio devices < sounds

That should disable the System Beep.

I have the same problem. I have headphones attached, but that Meditech
beep comes right out of the laptop. This is when my laptop is in the
docking station.

Mine is a Dell, too.
