Hi Meditech-L npr gurus,
I have a site that has an outside vendor that they will be connected to, via a vpn tunnel. They wish the scheduled npr report to replace a file on a share folder at this outside vendor, without using Meditech ftp protocol. Can this be done?
Txs!

if you can mount the folder on the remote site with the SMB
protocol, that makes things rather easy. if not, you'll need to
find another solution using an interface server - like Mirth, or
do a simple perl or powershell script to scp/sftp the file to the
remote location. or if the remote end wants to ftp into your site
over the ftp, you just need a simple sftp server for that - using
your virtual environment, setup a quick linux machine to do this,
that way it's isolated. I'm just pushing ideas off the top of my
head without knowing the full problem, so some of this might just
be useless.
good luck!

Mike,
If the vendor has a VPN tunnel, is it a constant connection where a UNC path could be mapped as a drive letter? If so, just drop the file into that “drive”.
If not, there are a few schedule applications that can wait for a file to drop into a folder and copy/move the file to a new location as long as the system that is sending via copy/move has sufficient rights
to do copy/move to the receiving server.
XCopy comes to mind as something that is usually available as a simple copy solution that allows for permissions to be added to the copy function. With this, the file that is dropped (as opposed to FTP’d) into
a local directory could be then copied or moved via the VPN tunnel to a UNC path that the vendor sets up for you with a valid username and password. Create a batch file that calls the xCopy, enter the appropriate parameters and run the batch file on a scheduled
basis through the Windows scheduler.
There are other Scheduler products out there that can do this all as well, specifically with the ability to act upon the receipt of the file and not rely on a scheduled occurrence, instead acting upon receipt of the file from Meditech. These usually also don’t
require any batch writing skills to do what it sounds like you’re attempting to do.
