Question: What are other facilities doing to address the assignment of
modifiers on chargemaster driven codes? The issue that we are having is
that when you access the account a second time, the modifiers are being
dropped from Meditech before rolling into the encoder session. On the
initial session, the coders are assigning modifiers to the chargemaster
driven codes based upon the edits or site specific codes (i.e., x-ray of
the right index finger). The modifiers will then flow from the encoder
back into the ABS module and file on the APC screen. But, if the coders
access the account a second time, the modifiers are being dropped. The
solutions offered were to either have them hardcoded into the chargemaster
(thereby increasing the size of the chargemaster) or continue doing what
we have been doing all along and that is to add the modifiers each time
the account is accessed. From what I have been told, this will not be an
issue with the Focus system. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Sincerely,
