Good Afternoon,

We have recently had a nurse come to work in our facility who has been at
other facilities where they had POP UP Screens when they were doing their
nursing documentation. For instance, if a certain CDS was answered "Y",
then a POP UP screen would appear and allow the nurse to document anything
associated with that question. Has other facilities heard of this and if
so, what software or company did you use for this? We are being told it has
something that the HCA Magic facilities have thru either Iatrics or other
3rd party software. Meditech has informed us that they do not support POP
UP screens. We are a Magic 5.64 facility and would really appreciate any
information on this subject.

We are magic 5.62 and used the pop-up attributes that circulated on the L years ago. We had a problem with some missing documentation on a cds with the pop-up attribute years back, Meditech said they do not support the attributes, the lost data was blamed on the pop-up attribute, we removed the attributes from all cds's used in clinical documentation.

We do use pop-up screens.

If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't use them. I would put all
the queries on the main screen and use attributes to skip.

Pop-up screens make screens look less busy so they are more appealing to
the eye.

You have to add all the queries on the pop-up screen to the main screen
as well so they can be viewed, printed, and edited. If the user uses
certain key strokes, they can actually end up in the queries from the
main screen which you don't want. They can get corruption, and it gets
messy trying to get out. Luckily for me, I am the one that usually has
that happen to them.
Also, they can exit out of the pop-up screen without answering the
required fields, and end up filing the screen without those fields
answered. We use to have our immunization criteria on a pop-up screen
and had too many instances where they didn't get documented, that I
pulled them off the pop-up and put on the main screen.

Add the fact that they have to be tested with every update because
there are things that get added to Meditech that make it more difficult
to use the more complex attributes each time. There have been times that
I have had to search for changes to make them work with the new code.
