Two DTS'es identified (one just submitted) - DTS 13456 (LAB/BBK: component profile name does not appear on inquiries) & 13692 (LIS - Component Tests Printing when Profiles Ordered (11553)).

So, I guess we are SOL until these DTS'es are available and WAD, but until then, it's a PITA for PICNIC staff. Sorry - monday morning acronyms are better than their expanded meanings ;)

My only satisfaction with this issue is that we identified it can be reproduced by Meditech, and it is nothing specific to Lab Sites or reference lab interfaces. I would expect other sites to experience this eventually, with no idea whatsoever of the trigger.
Kind of reminds me of the Charlie Brown cartoon (not an official comic strip frame)analogy I saved many, many moons ago - wetting your pants in a dark suit gives you a warm feeling, but no one seems to notice. I hope that wasn't too outlandish for the list.

Wow! I'm glad our lab doesn't want to put the barcodes on the reference lab labels! Obviously, has to be something saying add the barcode to only the first label printed...something in the Label Format dictionary?

Thanks to Joyce and the others who tossed out ideas. I have some additional information to really confuse the issue, based on additional testing:
A) LabCorp built the tests using the order number as ref code, and zero for res code on the orderable panel headers. They entered the order number as ref code and result code for res code on the non-orderable components.
The only way to reliably get barcode labels to print with barcodes (still don't print the ORDERED panel name):
1. Not put a container on the orderable panel test, but attach the rule.
2. Place a container on the first non-orderable component.
3. Include both orderable and non-orderable component tests in the rule(Meditech's recommendation.
4. Do not attach the rule to non-orderable component tests (which would have to be made orderable briefly to be able to attach the rule, if we did).

B) testing this morning, after making changes that worked at my prior facility:
1) I removed the zero res code from the orderable panel.
2) I removed the ref (order) codes from all resultable, non-orderable tests.
3) I created separate rules, with different link codes, as well as trying two tests (panels) within the same rule, but removed the non-orderable component tests.
4) I removed containers from all tests except the orderable panel.
5) I then placed orders on 3 different patients, using the same two panels (A & B).
Results:
the panels created separate specimen numbers, as expected with the rule(s).
the FIRST panel ordered prints a beautiful barcoded label with only the ordered panel name on the label (exactly as I want it!), but the next specimen(s) on the patient print the component tests on the label with no barcode, even though the panels are set up identically. If I change which panel is ordered first, entering panel B before panel A (which printed great), then panel B prints a good label, and panel A prints only components with no barcode.
Upon batching these specimens, the (standard) batch list prints the ordered panel name with specimen requirements (like it should) for the first specimen, and component tests with no specimen information for the component tests on subsequent specimens for the same patient.

If anyone can sort this out, I'd be grateful.

Since your ref lab is probably a different Lab Site; how about the LIS Lab Site dictionary. There's an opportunity on page 5 to define Label Formats. Our lab doesn't use barcode on the reference lab tests, so I'm not positive this is a fix or not.

Like I said, it was a shot in the dark as I had that issue in the past
on a 105yr old patient. I have never had good luck using container
types as we got caught up with multiple barcodes being printed for the
same specimen.

I had a similar issue one time. The barcode did not print because the
patient's age was not in the range defined. Just a shot in the dark.

I could use a little help with this issue - In our TEST dictionary,
panels like a CMP performed inhouse print correctly, with the ordered
test of CMP on the label. For our new reference lab tests, we are using
the same barcode format, barcode type (Code 128), but a hepatitis
profile (for example) prints labels with the component tests (we had to
attach a container to a component because the panel (with same container
& barcode) printed a blank label with no barcode. I've never seen this
issue before other than when no container was attached.
It would make my day/week.month if someone knew the solution.
As I indicated, label, barcode format, container are all unchanged.
