We had problems with our first RXM drug dictionary load in test in that for some reason the majority of items were inactive. We believe that this may have happened when Meditech moved RXM from one machine to the other, because I remember when it was first loaded that it looked pretty complete. The bottom line is that we had Meditech expunge the RXM drug dictionary and we started from scratch. I kept hearing from people that there were over 100,000 items that come from First DataBank in the RXM drug dictionary, but we only got 33,707 entries. FDB has said that there should be 136,000 plus. I have opened a task with Meditech, but is there anyone out there who can give me an idea of how many entries I should be starting out with from a FDB RXM load? I just don't know whether or not to trust the load.
Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie, we had a similar issue loading the formulary and pulling it into RXM. Check to see if Meditech dropped the ball on linking the RXM database in the PHA parameters. We use Medispan, but experienced a similar issue. We also noted, once the parameter was set and the formulary RELOADED that not all generics were loaded into RXM for allergy/ADR checking. LSS and Meditech have indicated they found a code issue (i.e. a bug) that may be causing it, but the strange thing is we don't have an issue in TEST (where the parameter was correctly set prior to the initial formulary load into RXM).

I believe there are about 144,000 drugs on the FDB Meditech hospital
set, but when it loads you should end up with about 34,000. The "extra"
are automatically suppressed by MT during the load process are these are
exact GPC matches. I believe you load all 144,00 in PHA as retail, but
RXM does not pull them all over into that dictionary.

Sorry, I would say Jeff's response is more correct than mine.
It gets a little confusing with Retail, Rxm, and PHA drug lists.....

Meditech did confirm that what Jeff said about the filtering when loading drugs into RXM is correct. Below is the response:

Rego,Amy (MEDITECH) - Dec 22, 2009 - 1253 EST: Hi Charlie, cc Elysha: The RXM
Drug Dictionary does filter by Generic product code, this is correct.

Please see the following KB article for more information and how to display or
pull in these exact Generic product codes into your RXM dictionary if desired:

KB 35290: How can I set up a drug's Generic Product Code information in the RXM
Drug Dictionary?

I thought that I would post this so that users would have a better understanding of the issue. As you can see, there is even a KB article on this.

Charlie,
Do you know that if one has already done multiple formulary loads for
RXM and now decides to build the Drug Dictionary CDS, does another load
will the generic product codes populate?
