We build our most common half tabs as an independent entry in the drug
dictionary. We have a medication form of HALFTAB and attach formulary,
inpatient, and outpatient comments that say "1/2 OF 0.25 MG TABLET" as an
example. The whole and half tabs have separate billing numbers and have
descriptions for each in BAR. We load the half tabs prepacked in pyxis(we
have a med packaging machine that also identifies them as halftabs). In the
pyxis formulary the dosage form is HALFTAB as well. For the less common
partials, we will enter the dose and change the inventory to the MAIN
inventory and send up an accurate dose. Some narcs get cut and wasted out
of the pyxis machine on the floor, but our general philosophy is to provide
the dose when possible.

Picis said to call Meditech. Meditech asked me to ask Picis how they are
calling PCI. When I submitted this question to Picis, they figured out how
to fix it on their end. They did not provide any details on the fix.

We have Meditech Magic 5.5. We are starting to use the 4.x NUI

there, the session aborts. It works fine with workstation 3.x. Is anyone
else experiencing this problem?

I would love to speak with anyone who may be willing to hold a site
visit. One specific area of interest is how others are documenting I&Os
and how they appear on the nursing status board. I guess the specifics
would be a Magic site, LIVE with the NUR Status Board with pediatric
patients.

Hi folks,

I have the following attribute on a query that is set
up as a DATE field in the query dictionary:

IFE=IF{[ANS,"NURBLOOD2"]|0^/DTE,
IFE=/DTE^/[ANS%0,"NURBLOO134"]|0,P(R,S,/DTE)^#,""}

The query's name that this attribute is on is
"NURBLOO134". It is pulling the info from the date
field "NURBLOOD2" earlier on the same CDS.

Trouble is, when it fills in the date field, it fills
it in in the internal date format (YYYYMMDD ....
20060817 for today for example).

After the CDS is filled in and saved, viewing it under
View History properly shows the 08/17/2006 format, but
while the users are in the screen for the first time,
all they will see is the internal format.

How do I get it to fill in initially with the
MM/DD/YYYY format? I'm assuming I need to use the
z.date.out z function, but do not know how to insert
it into my attribute above.

Thanks as always for the indispensible L-List help!!

Is anyone able to assist me in modifying Meditech's
standard ".AD.1" mar section (used in building a
custom MAR FORMAT under PHA Report Dictionaries ..
menu item 14)?

.AD.1 is really quite good in every respect EXCEPT it
does not include a given drug's STOP DATE (even tho
the header info says START DATE/STOP DATE).

I asked our NPR report writer specialist to assist w/
this, but was told they don't do that outside of doing
it via a custom. (sigh.)

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for everyone's help on this one. I am going to show all the
solutions and let you know which one I used.

SOLUTION 1: (Thanks to Lori Vandiver)
** I did not use this solution since I am strictly a report writer and
have no involvement with maintenance of CDS's. This sounds like a cool
concept but the code to capture this was easy enough. **

Have a query on the CDS that auto fills the patient's current
location and then skips the query.

************************************************************************
**************************************

SOLUTION 2: (Thanks to Phyllis Whitener, Kimberly Frick)
** I did not use this solution since it only contains a value when an
intervention is DOCUMENTED (D). This would probably work in a crunch
but I wanted to be able to capture other Activity Types such as (+, ES,
U, etc...) **

Use "td.location" with the Detail Segment
"nur.int.documented.activity"

************************************************************************
**************************************

SOLUTION 3: (Thanks to Ken MacPherson) I will cut and paste his solution
below.
** I did not use this solution only because I am a MAGIC site and did
not attempt to change the variables. The code looks good and I like the
flow and may try it out in the future for the practice of it. **

What you have to do is cycle the events segment for the event following
the date and time of the charting and determine the location of the
patient from that record. I Have a macro the cycles the event segment
for multiple pieces of information which is pasted below.

Create a report Z.zcus.npr
Paste the code below into the report

If you are a magic site then you may have to alter the variable
names to match how variables are named in your system.

To use this macro the statement would be

%Z.zcus.npr.M.get.event.info(ADM.PAT.urn,DATE,TIME,"event.location")

Hope this Helps

SOLUTION 4: (Thanks to Cheri Adams) Again, I will cut and paste her
response.
** I did use this solution, although I modified it a bit to fit what I
needed. Very easy code to work with **

Here's something that I worked up for our group:

Go to the macro section (you choose the name of your macro - I have used
get and getloc as macro names before - and copy and paste this in - the
instructions (prefaced with a ";") are pretty straightforward -

;This macro will determine the patient's location/rm/bed when the int
was ;documented.
;
;This macro was based on what was found on the MT web site and then
modified to concatenate ;the location-room-bed. Validated and works
appropriately.
;
;If you want just the location, remove the concatenated room and bed
from the first part ;of the macro read: LOC; ;instead of
LOC_"-"_RM_"-"BED; ; ;Under the CHECK portion - you can remove last two
lines that ^RM and ^BED if you don't want ;room and bed in addition to
location.
;
;On report make xx.field w/the following:
;DAT=FREE
;JFY=C
;LEN=20
;In the val statement below, be sure to change the name of the
report/macro call to the ;current name/macro call in your report.
Remember, this isn't actually a macro, it is a ;program call to loop
through the ADM room/bed index.

I am not aware of HCA being "stingy" about sharing their NPR reports. There
are some issues you would want to be aware of:

First, HCA has a custom version of Meditech. And, while we are moving
closer to the main stream version, we aren't there yet. So, you could get
something that works great for an HCA facility, but points to some index or
data that doesn't exist in your environment.

Second, most NPR reports have not been built by the PCM at the facility
level. They are something that someone at a much higher level has designed.
So, some of the people participating on this list would not be able to
answer questions regarding how to "make it work" once you get it and it
doesn't work like you thought.

That's just a couple of reasons why you might not see tons of HCA reports
floating about.

If your query is stored in admissions:

VAL=@ADM.PAT.ccdqr.response[@patient,"QUERY"]

If your query is stored in other locations (OE, NUR, etc):

You will need to either fragment (utilizing @patient), or open a prefix to
the storage location (example, via footnote %Z.rw.fragment("","OE"), or also
via macro) then you can:

VAL=IF{@patient^OE.ORD.patient,""^OE.ORD.urn,
VAL=@OE.ORD.response[@Next(OE.ORD.urn,OE.ORD.pt.active.x),"QUERY"]}

PS. HCA shouldn't be so stingy with sharing their NPRs with the rest of the
world. - My opinion.

I'm trying to write a report out of SCH.APPT and I need to be able to pull
some responses to nursing queries. I can't figure out what to put in the
VAL statement to make it come across. Suggestions? Thanks.

Is anyone using a single signon product, not Meditech's single signon?
I am specifically looking at Imprivata and Sentillion but would also be
interested in any other vendors that are working with Meditech. Does it
work? Is it reliable? Do users like it?

TIA

OK all of you sys-op, techie types!!! It's time to show your stuff at
this year's Eastern Regional MUSE conference!!! I am your Regional Peer
Group Leader this year (very appropriate since the University of
Maryland is just about in my back yard!). If you've got cool system ops
tricks and tips to share, why not do a Show & Tell and do a little
"struttin'"?! Remember, it's not bragging if you can do it, right?!?!

Contact me at the address below and let me know if you've got some
ideas!!! We're only a few weeks away from the conference (and it will
be a GREAT ONE!), so give me call, drop me a line!!!

Thanks.....

Hello Daniel,
In my experience, whenever anyone from HCA has been asked to share an
NPR, the standard answer is "HCA doesn't share NPR definitions". No
other reason given.

That being said, the reasons you give shouldn't be an issue for
some/many of the NPR writers here. HCA Meditech still utilizes standard
MAGIC syntax, so the MAGIC NPR Viewer application can open the NPRs that
are produced from an HCA site, if the report should error out on an
upload into the user's HCIS (or if they were C/S).

I have converted a few MAGIC NPRs to C/S, and while it's not for the
faint of heart, it is quite doable. Conversion from HCA MAGIC should be
equally as doable, even if there are "custom indexes" being used. If one
couldn't be made to work, I could see where someone may be asking the
originator of the NPR for assistance or pointers, but what's wrong with
that? If it isn't available, it isn't available.

The point of the post was that HCA is not known for their sharing of NPR
definitions, not issues of converting those NPRs.

I stand by my opinion, HCA should be more forthcoming in sharing NPR
definitions. Especially given that there is usually no hesitation from
the community in providing assistance when HCA people ask for it.

Perhaps I am jaded, having worked for HCA long ago and far away, perhaps
I am just seeing them as being petty. /shrug
