$T Radiology - We Batch Fax our Radiology reports to the ordering physicians
from the Meditech Radiology module. But, the Radiologist group who reads
these reports would also like a copy for billing purposes. We cannot batch
fax due to the ordering MD is who the report is linked to go to. Each day
we have a different Radiologist (40+ in the group) who could possibly read
the exam. The "Copies To Recipient" would be very tedious to add the
radiologist for every exam done. It would be a manual entry. We also
inquired about downloading the RAD reports, but this is not possible. Any
ideas or suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

There is a reasonably simple solution to your plight.
We got out of the printing business for the RAD's Billing company
several years ago as it was costing US a lot of staff time plus paper
and toner costs just so THEY could send out bills. When you think about
it a moment, you are spending lots of money to help someone else make
money, without any remuneration.
Our contract with the RAD group said we have to make the billing
information available- but didn't say that we have to spend money to
give it to them. So we helped our RAD billing company connect with
Iatric Systems and had them pay Iatric Systems to create two reports:
one for the Radiology patient demographics and insurance information,
the other report created a text file of all of the signed RAD reports
for the user defined date range. We then worked with Iatric Systems to
test the reports. (OR you could write these reports for a fee, but the
idea is not to throw any more of your time and money down that
proverbial hole.)
The end result is that we have given the RAD billing company access to
our Meditech system to run and download these two reports whenever they
want. We are otherwise removed from the RAD billing business.
Bottom Line: You will need to facilitate/Project Manage the work between
Iatric System and the RAD billing company
1. Contact your RAD billing company to negotiate this and obtain the
file layout for importing patient demographics and insurance info into
their computer system.
2. Print a few RAD reports and spool them together to show the RAD
billing company what a potential download file of RAD reports would look
like.
3. Get and keep the RAD billing company and Iatric Systems working. I
suggest that you announce a deadline after which you will no longer
provide any information. Otherwise the RAD billing company has zero
motivation to change methodologies. You will not have any difficulties
working with Iatric Systems, your problems will come from the RAD
billing company dragging their feet.
Good luck!

You would really need to relay it, send it to an FTP server inside your network and relay with some sFTP client software running on that server.

Unless you create a secure VPN tunnel from your network to the billing
services network, you are sending PHI over the internet unencrypted, and
this is very un-HIPAA.

If you use an FTP client with SSH - SFTP - it establishes a "temporary
point to point tunnel with encryption." Of course, it's dependent on the
application used to do it. My Security Admin has approved a few SFTP
clients for my use in these situations.
