We recently went live with Version 2 Allergies. What are other sites
doing when allergies are unknown, (patient unable to communicate)?
Pharmacy is being flagged with the enter allergies flag. They are
reluctant to enter "NKDA". Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

In these cases we use an entry that says "No allergy information available"

Hope this helps.

We use this as well (reluctantly). Yeah, the PHA module is happy and you can then enter orders once you do this, but our PHA employees tend to think their allergy entry job is finished at this point. Be careful if you use this approach routinely, you're setting yourself up for problems since nothing is being screened. I police this and remove any such entries the next day.

You should have UNKNOWN or UNABLE TO OBTAIN or PATIENT UNCONSCIOUS or similar "dummy" entries for the nurses to enter. However, someone is going to have to eventually go back and followup and that is a process that there is no good answer for unless you run a daily report looking for these dummy entries and have someone follow up on them.
